December8ThatparticularFridaywastheSolemnityoftheImmaculateConception–PatronalFeastdayoftheUnitedStatesofAmerica.ThisfeastpredatedthebirthofMaryby9months.ThedoctrinesaidthatOurLadywasconceivedbySt.AnnewithoutOriginalSin.Thefollowingwasacommentaryfromtheprayerbook,Magnificat:“ThroughherImmaculateConception,theBlessedVirginMary,truedaughterofZion,theholycityofGod,ismadereadytoreceiveEmmanuel,God-with-us,inthetempleofherwomb.”The9:00a.m.Massinourchurch,presidedbyFr.FrancisHtun,assistedbyDeaconWillieSevillawasbothfortheschoolandparish,soitwasstanding-roomonly.The6thgradeclassthatsponsoredtheliturgy,decoratedthepewswithpicturesofOurLady.MusicwasundertheleadershipofLiliaPatriarcaandJamesCampbell,whoplayedthepiano.ItwasalivelyMassbecausealmostallthestudentsandparishionersparticipatedinthesinging.4:00p.m.wastheNovenatoOurLadyofPerpetualHelpintheconventoftheParishCenter.ThedevotionendedwiththeRosary.

MotherTeresaAt6:00p.m.therewere5ofuswhowenttoSt.AnthonyofPaduaChurch(CesarChavezStreetinSanFrancisco)fortheProfessionofVowsof4NovicesoftheMissionariesofCharity(MC)–-thereligiousorderfoundedbyMotherTeresaofCalcutta.ThemaincelebrantwashisExcellency,ArchbishopSalvatoreCordileone.RowsandrowsofpewswereoccupiedbytheSistersofMCintheirfamiliarwhiteandbluehabits.AgroupoftheirSistersmadeupthechoir,whichsoundedsoangelicthatnight.(Alsoacousticwasgoodbecausethechurchwassmall.)

[Once,IwaslisteningtotheImmaculateHeartRadio,AM1260–nowcalledRelevantRadio.Theannouncersuggestedthatwecouldgetglimpsesofheaveninourmidst.Theexampleshegave:someFirstCommunicantswhorealizedheorshereceivedJesusHimself;somebridesandgroomsaftertheirMarriageVows.Icouldaddtothoseexamples:theNoviceswhowereprofessingtheirfirstvows,whentheywalkedtowardthealtar,eachholdingahostfortheOffertory.Theyhadthisspecialglow,whichtome,lookedreallyangelic.]InthepresenceoftheArchbishop,the4womenpromisedalifeofpoverty,chastityandobediencefor1year.Thatsamenight,theSuperioroftheMissionariesofCharityhandedthe4sisterstheirassignments.Someoftheplaceswheretheywillservewere:Cuba,HaitiandArgentina.Rightnow,theirtravellingpapersarebeingprocessedsothattheycouldtakeoffonorbeforeDecember31st.Theyalllookedsoexcited!SaintMotherTeresamustbesoproudofthem!Pleaseremembertheminyourprayers.
