Principal’s Reflection
18 September, 2019
Week 9, Term 3
Reflection Dear Families,
This weekend we pray for our students who will be making their First
Communion on Sunday; Anastasia Thomas, Charlotte Bush, Peyton
McMahon, Leyla McLaughlin and Matthea Regulano. A big thanks to Mr.
Steve O’Shannessy, Mr. Tony O’Brien and Fr. Dave Tremble for the role
they have played in preparing our students for this special Sacrament.
Around 60 schools from the NT, including our school, are preparing to transition to NAPLAN
Online in 2020. This week students across Year 2, 4, and 6 have been involved in these preparations to move NAPLAN
testing from paper testing to online testing. These practice online tests are part of a national programme to move all
NAPLAN testing from paper to online testing by 2021. This has proved a great opportunity for our students to get used to
online testing and checking our school ICT infrastructure prior to next year.
This Friday our Year 6 students will be attending the Catholic Primary School Public Speaking and
Sports Day competition held at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Palmerston. Over the last weeks
students have been competing to represent Holy Spirit at the event. I am proud to announce that Kevin
jimmy will be representing our school, speaking on the topic “Space research is not a waste of time and
money ?”. I wish Kevin and all Yr. 6 students all the best on the day.
Next Friday the 27th of September is our Footy Friday Colours Day. Students may wear their favourite
sports team colours. If your child does not have a favourite team they may wear their favourite colours.
Please ensure that clothes are sun-safe, no singlets or short shorts or thongs please.
Lately there appears to be an increasing number of students arriving after our morning assembly or
when lessons have commenced. Parents are asked to ensure that children arrive before the bell (8:10am) each day so that
they are ready and organised for the start of the school day. Punctuality is an important lesson to teach our children and it is
vital that they learn this lesson from a young age. On the occasion your child is unavoidably late, please send them through
the front office to ensure they are signed in correctly.
Thank you to the families who have returned their school Intention to Return form for 2020. This process greatly assists
us with our preparations and planning for next year. If you are yet to complete a form please do so as soon as possible.
Enrolments are now being taken for Transition 2020. If your child turns 5 prior to 30 June 2020, he or she is eligible to
commence Transition in January 2020. Please call into the office for an enrolment form or download one from our website:
http://www.holyspiritnt.catholic.edu.au/enrolment-and-fees/school-enrolment-form .We also have vacancies in Years 1—6.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal
“Then, speaking to all, he said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower
of mine, let him renounce himself
and take up his cross every day and follow me. Anyone who
wants to save his life will lose it;
but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it.”

SPARE UNIFORM The front office has a shortage of spare clothes. If you have a
child in Transition - Year 2, we ask that you send them to
school with a change of uniform (including underwear) in their
school bag in case of accidents that occur from time to time.
CHILD SAFETY AND WELLBEING Parents are reminded that staff supervision commences at
7:45am each morning prior to school commencing at 8:10am.
Parents who require care before this time are asked to book
their child into the ‘Before School Care Programme’ at a cost
of $50/week or $10 per day.
Parent pick up– Parents are reminded that the Parent pick
up is for a drop off in the morning and collection in the
afternoon. It is not a designated parking area.
Please do not park on the yellow lines outside the front
office entrance. This area is monitored and you may be fined.
PARENT PICK UP & DROP OFF AREA We are currently experiencing a number of traffic flow issues
with our Parent Pick Up and Drop off area at afternoon
dismissal. These issues are currently leading to traffic
congestion on Gsell street, traffic jams in the Parent Pick Up
area and dangerous collection of students.
In order to assist with overcoming these issues you can help in
the following ways:
Do not park in front of the school
automatic gate prior to the opening of
the gates of an afternoon.
Do not park your car in the parent pick
up area and leave your vehicle there.
Do not park or sit idle on the road that
runs through our parent pick up area
If all the waiting bays are full please
drive through and park in the visitor car
park or drive around again.
Thank you for your cooperation with this important issue that
relates to the work health and safety of the children and staff
here at Holy Spirit.

Community Notices
Monday 16h September, 2019
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
RE: School Swimming Programme Term 4, 2019 - Casuarina Pool Swimming Programme begins on Monday 28
th October (Week 3) and concludes on Thursday 7
th November (Week 4).
There are no lessons on Friday of each week.
Cost of Swimming Programme is $64 per student. Payment is due to our office prior to commencement of lessons. Please do not hesitate in making contact with our front office if you wish to discuss a payment plan for this.
Timetable of lessons is currently being coordinated with Royal Life Saving Instructors and Casuarina Pool staff. Lessons will take place from 8:30 – 1:15pm each day (excluding Friday). Once timetable is set it cannot be altered.
This programme not only looks at stroke development, but survival and rescue skills. It is important for children to learn these necessary skills and to familiarise themselves with what to do in case of an emergency. Our swimming programme is a part of the Physical Education Programme here at school, therefore an expectation that all students participate.
To ensure children benefit from this programme, we are asking parents/caregivers to inform the office of any changes to children’s current swimming level. Our records have been updated from our 2018 programme, however if your child has taken part in further lessons out of school hours through your local swimming club then we must see evidence of a certificate to move your child into the next level. We only accept Royal Life Saving Certificates attained by students.
For students new to Holy Spirit, please ensure we are provided evidence of a current Royal Life Saving Swimming Certificate. We must cite the original certificate rather than a photocopy. For any students who do not have a current swimming level, instructors will carry out assessment on the first day of lessons.
Please do not hesitate in speaking with me should you require clarification.
Kind Regards, Paula Sellars Deputy Principal/PE Coordinator
