Breaking Down Languages● Language Convergence is the process in which 2 different
cultures/people combine their languages to form another that allows interaction.
Ex: Greek-Romani is a Converged Language that allows interaction between them.
● A Pidgin Language is not an official language, but rather one used by 2 people who don't speak the same language to communicate.
Ex: The West-African English is used extensively throughout the African Coast.● A Creole is a language that once began as a Pidgin Language, but then is
adopted as the “mother tongue” of a state/country.Ex: Hawaiian Creole is a mix of Hawaiian Language and English.
● Extinction occurs when a language is no longer used or known.Ex: Biblical Hebrew is an Extinct Language that’s considered a sacred language.
● Dialect is more than an accent, a Dialect has its own grammar and vocabulary.
Ex: People that live in the North of the U.S. might say “Pop” and people in the south of the U.S. might say “Coke”. It's a clear example of Dialect .
● A Sound Shift is when a word is slightly changed when spread. Ex: People in Germany Pronounce words with different beginnings.
