Breaking Down Languages● Language Convergence is the process in which 2 different

cultures/people combine their languages to form another that allows interaction.

Ex: Greek-Romani is a Converged Language that allows interaction between them.

● A Pidgin Language is not an official language, but rather one used by 2 people who don't speak the same language to communicate.

Ex: The West-African English is used extensively throughout the African Coast.● A Creole is a language that once began as a Pidgin Language, but then is

adopted as the “mother tongue” of a state/country.Ex: Hawaiian Creole is a mix of Hawaiian Language and English.

● Extinction occurs when a language is no longer used or known.Ex: Biblical Hebrew is an Extinct Language that’s considered a sacred language.

● Dialect is more than an accent, a Dialect has its own grammar and vocabulary.

Ex: People that live in the North of the U.S. might say “Pop” and people in the south of the U.S. might say “Coke”. It's a clear example of Dialect .

● A Sound Shift is when a word is slightly changed when spread. Ex: People in Germany Pronounce words with different beginnings.
