DESCRIPTION

"Mr. Squirrel's BIG Adventure", "Volcano Taco", "Brandy and the Island", and "Max and the Oogala - Foogala" - - What on earth do these 4 things have in common? These are the titles of the books that the Topeka Lutheran School 8th graders wrote and illustrated in computer class this past nine weeks for the 1st graders. We went into Mrs. Hadley's class and listened to her read several different kinds of books to her students, and then we talked about appropriate language and subjects that first graders would enjoy and understand. They wrote the story and then illustrated it using Power Point. Next, they printed the stories off and colored each page. Ms. Eakins bound them, and you can look at them on the table across from the pop machines. (Please be careful not to rip the pages. We invited the 1st graders into the music room to show them the "Power Point version" of their books (a couple had animation that does not show up on a hard copy). Using the AverKey that hooks up to the computer, we could show the Power Point on the TV screen. The 1st graders loved the books. They really are quite creative! Take a peek!

Mr. Squirrel’s Big Adventure!

3

It was a long day searching for acorns in the woods for Mr. Squirrel. He had been searching for hours. But he could not find his acorns. Where had Mr. Squirrel put them?

4

They were not in his tree. They were not in Mr. Squeaker’s house. They were not in Mr. Raccoon’s garbage can.

5

The only place Mr. Squirrel had not looked was around Billy Bob’s house.

6

But Mr. Squirrel’s mom had told him not to go to Billy Bob’s house.

7

But he likes acorns so much he ignored the warning, and went to Billy Bob’s house anyway.

8

When Mr. Squirrel got to Billy Bob’s house he heard a rumble. Mr. Squirrel was terrified!

9

The garbage can was shaking wildly. All of a sudden Mr. Raccoon popped out of the garbage can.

10

Mr. Squirrel said, “What are you doing Mr. Raccoon?”

11

Mr. Raccoon said, “Beware! This is Billy Bob’s house!”

12

Mr. Squirrel said, “Don’t worry I have just come to find my acorns.”

13

Suddenly Mr. Squirrel saw the acorns by the shed!

14

Then everything turned black. He found himself in a metal cage in a strange house.

15

Billy Bob said with a chuckle, “ I haven’t had squirrel for dinner in a while!”

16

Billy went to get his frying pan. Squirrel heard a noise and POP!

17

Mr. Raccoon and Mr. Squeakers popped out of a hole in a wall.

18

Mr. Raccoon worked on the poorly made lock and it cracked open. KLINK!

19

Mr. Squeakers took the tiny bag off of his back. Squirrel screamed. “My acorns!”

20

Mr. Squirrel and his friends escaped Billy’s house with his magically delicious acorns.

21

He never went around Billy Bob’s house ever again.
