GOOD FRIDAY’S COLLECTION: Pope Francis has asked
our parish to support Christians in the Holy Land. Through the
Good Friday collection, you join Catholics around the world to
stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land as a witness
of peace. In these challenging times in the Middle East, your sup-
port means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide
Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians,
maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land.
Like Simon of Cyrene, you can help carry the cross under very
difficult circumstances in the Holy Land. Christians, along with
all of the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land will
deeply appreciate your prayers and financial aid. Please be gener-
ous!
FOR A COMPLETE SCHEDULE OF HOLY WEEK DEVOTIONS,
PLEASE SEE THE FLYER WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THIS
WEEK’S BULLETIN
The Sacred Paschal Triduum refers to the three most solemn days of the liturgical year; Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. These most holy days celebrate the Paschal Mystery, first, the passion, suffering, and death of our Lord Jesus, followed by his resurrection, the triumph of the holy cross, and Christ’s decisive victory over sin and death. The three days of the Triduum are our “high holy days,” our “pilgrimage feast,” and we ought to make pilgrimage from our homes to church to commemorate and honor how the Lord Jesus laid down his life for us, his friends, for our salvation. The Triduum highlights and celebrates the fullness of the Pas-chal Mystery that we experience in every Mass. Please make it a top priority to go to church to celebrate the Triduum this year. Find the time. If there were ever three days that you should want to go to church to pray, it would be the Triduum.
PLEASE NOTE that the Parish Office will be closed on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Monday. As always, if an emergency situation should arise and you need to contact a priest, simply dial the parish office num-
ber and follow the telephone prompts to be connected with the priest on duty.
NO CCD CLASSES THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT in observance of Holy Week and Easter Holidays. Classes will resume on Sunday, April 15, 2018.
FAST. PRAY. GIVE UP YOUR ENVELOPES! We invite you to help your parish save money by giving up your offertory envelopes this Lent! Enrolling with Faith Direct will provide Sacred Heart Church with consistent support and simplify your giving without the wasteful envelopes. Join us in giving up envelopes this Lenten sea-son! Follow the link below to quickly enroll in eGiving to Sacred Heart Church. To enroll, just go to www.faithdirect.net or download the free app and use our church code: MD244.
Lenten Reminder The Lenten season is traditionally a time of penance throughout the Universal Church. It is also a season in which prayer, the reception of the sacraments, charity and almsgiving are emphasized. Fast
(limit of one full meal for all between the ages of 18 and 59) and
abstinence (all who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to abstain totally from meat) are observed on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence from
meat. As our Easter Duty Obligation, Holy Communion must be received during the Easter Season, as specified by Archdiocesan Regulations.
FINANCIAL BLESSINGS Last week’s offertory amounted to $10,505.48. The
unidentifiable loose collection was $915.30. Thanks for your generosity.
BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN. Thank you for participating in Baby Bottle Campaign. There is still time to turn in your baby bot-tle. Please return it to the parish office.

Today begins the holiest week of the entire year…we call it Holy Week…
I want to go through the highlights that happen this week and hopefully
convince you to participate fully so that your Easter is truly a powerful
experience…I want to encourage all of you to join us for Holy Thursday,
Good Friday and Easter Sunday (the Vigil if you can). It is called the
Sacred Triduum. It is not one Mass, but three parts of one Liturgy. I think
when people only go to Mass on Easter Sunday it’s like walking into a
movie at the end; where one does not know why one is celebrating. Yet if
some takes the whole week seriously, Easter becomes a powerful experi-
ence of God's love as we journey with Him in his passion, death, and res-
urrection. We see in the Gospel the betrayal of Judas:
He says:
"What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?"
They paid him thirty pieces of silver…" We all sin like Judas…St. John Vianney says when you go to Confession
you un-nail Jesus from the Cross. We will have confession on Wednesday
night form 7-9 and Good Friday from 12-5 pm. Plenty of time to cleanup
before Easter.
If we look at the Gospel we see Jesus celebrating the Last Supper… It
says: While they were eating,
Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said,
"Take and eat; this is my body."
This IS Holy Thursday. Jesus gives us two sacraments: 1) Holy Orders
and 2) The Holy Eucharist. This is such a powerful night where we cele-
brate the first time Jesus changed bread and wine into his Body and
Blood…At the end of the liturgy on Thursday we will process with Jesus
in the Eucharist to the Friendship Room where a chapel with an altar of
repose will be so like Peter, James and John, we can pray with our Lord as
he prepares to give his life for us the following day. He said to Peter,
"So you could not keep watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test.
The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Then we move into Good Friday… It says in scripture:
“But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.”
After being beaten, scourged, crowned with thorns and nailed to the Cross,
Jesus finally dies…Why? "By giving up his own Son for our sins, God
manifests that His plan for us is one of benevolent love.." He died to show
how much he loves us and to save us from our sins.. On Good Friday
each of us will be able (if one goes) to kiss the Crucifix one at a time, to
simply say, thank you Jesus for what you did for me…
Then…Easter…more on this next week. So, are we going to enter Holy
Week fully or are we going to make excuses not to come? Show God we
love him by coming and walking with him during Holy week.
In Christ, Fr. Larry
