Hornet Spotlight:Austin Chillemi

AustinChillemi,acenterfromRichmond,VA,hasimproved tremendously since the beginning of theseasonandisoftenoneofthefirstbigmenoff the bench. Austin has shown to be an adept passer for a post player and does a good job hit-ting the boards. Additionally, he is a strong shot blocker, can score with either hand, and is a good teammate. Against Bridgewater, he tallied four

rebounds and four assists in nine minutes of action. Chillemi posted a strong line of eight points, making 2-4 shots and 4-4 free throws, four rebounds, four blocks, and one steal in 15 minutes on the court against a Methodist. Wednes-day against Eastern Mennonite, he tallied seven points as he made three of his sixfieldgoalattempts.

TONIGHT’S GAME: Lynchburg College hosts Washington & Lee in an impor-tant Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

PREVIOUS MEETING: LC fell on the road 63-59 in overtime at W&L. Lynch-burg used a 13-2 spurt to open a 40-24 lead with 16:44 left in regulation. The Generals went on a 20-3 run over the next eight minutes to take a 44-43 advan-tage. A LC technical foul with 1:52 to go allowed W&L to tie the game at 53-53. A KC Mendez layup in overtime gave LC its last lead, 58-57, with 2:19 left. Ben Goetsch made a layup to put W&L up two with 33 seconds left and Jason Cimino made both free throws to put W&L up four to seal the game. Each team had over 20 turnovers as W&L had 29 to 21 for LC. The Hornets struggledfromthefield,shooting34%comparedto46%fortheGenerals.LCmade 11-of-17 free throws while W&L went 5-14. Echols led LC with 18 points, eight boards, and seven steals. Mendez tacked on 14 points, Jeff Langrock tal-lied six points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals while Brandan Con-norhadfivesteals.GoetschledW&Lwith21pointsand12caroms,ZacWhitehad seven boards, and Cimino had eight points and seven assists.

HORNETS: LC has gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, however, the Hornets have responded to each loss with a win with their most recent result being a loss to Eastern Mennonite. LC hasn’t been able to go on a winning streak in that stretch but has also had the resolve to not let one loss turn into multiple losses. Echols leads Lynchburg with averages of 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 3.6 steals.
