2011 ACHIEVMENTS AT A GLANCE
DAVIS CUP BY BNP PARIBAS India has been participating in the Davis Cup since 1921. In 2011 in the very first round we lost to the existing champions Serbia 1‐4 an away tie at Belgrade. In the World Group playoff in Tokyo on 16‐18 September Japan defeated India by a similar margin. The Japanese benefited from very good performances from the young Yuichi Sugita, who beat India´s No. 1 Somdev Devvarman in the opening match, and Kei Nishikori, who earned his two singles points, to reach a place in the World Group after 26 years. India has reverted back to the Asia/ Oceania Group I in 2012.
India has received a first round BYE and will play the winner of the New Zealand v Uzbekistan in the second round of the Zone Asia/Oceania Group I. RANKINGS (as of – 31st October 2011)
