State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant Program

An effective teaching and learning strategy integrating meaningful community servicewith academic study and reflective practiceto enrich learning, build civic engagement, and strengthen communities.

What is Service-Learning?

State Farm Good Neighbor grants encourage semester-long programs: Launch on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (January 17, 2011)

Culminate on Global Youth Service Day (April 15-17, 2011)

A Semester of Service

•November 9th: Application deadline •December 20th: Announce winners•January 7th: MOU due•January 14th : Grant funds distributed •January 17th, 2011: MLK Day •April 15th-17th, 2011: Global Youth Service Day•May, 2011: Post-project reports due

State Farm Good Neighbor Timeline

•The applicant must be a teacher, service-learning coordinator or student (age 5-25) in a public school, or staff and youth (age 5-25) in a community-based organization working with a public school.

•The applicant must be a resident of one of the 50 states of the United States or the Canadian provinces of Alberta, New Brunswick, or Ontario.

•Previous YSA grantees are welcome to apply.

State Farm Good NeighborEligibility – Who can apply?

The project must be a service-learning project and should address a real community need and connect the service with intentional learning goals and skills.

Children and/or youth, ages 5-25 must be the primary volunteers in your service-learning project.

State Farm Good NeighborEligibility – About the Project

The service-learning project activities must take place between January 2011 and April 2011.

A significant component of your service-learning project must take place on Global Youth Service Day, 2011 (April 15-17, 2011).
