June 2013
We have just finished a very momentous month of May which
was modified because of the April flood. It caused us to postp
our April luncheon (because the Hyatt was difficult to access)
early May. The program on Lean Six Sigma was presented by
Mike Higgins from Molex and was very well received. In fa
we are hoping to supplement that program with a breakfast pr
gram on September 11th at Wheatstack. More information will be forthcom
Speaking of the flood, the chamber has joined with several service organizatto help coordinate efforts to assist the flood victims. The Flood Relief Coalithas met and a regular basis to discuss how to respond to our residents and bunesses that need help. We thank the Lisle Kiwanis representative Fred Habefor taking the lead, with support from Lisle Lion, John Sweeney, Lisle Rotaan, Lucy Matune, Mike Guilliam ofBoy Scout Troop 108 through the FirstMethodist church for their tremendous help, Dennis Webb ofSharing Conntions, Lorna Turner of the Lisle Womans Club, and Diane Ancede. One ofteachers at Lisle Jr. High coordinated a walk on Sunday May 19th and raisedfunds for assistance. As you may know FEMA set up a center at the Lisle PoStation which is covering a broad area. Finally, the Chamber is partnering w
the Village of Lisle to present a Flood Relief Expo onSaturday June 8th at t
Lisle Park District. The time is from 10am to 1pm. We areinviting contracto be available for residents to provide information on their services. There avariety ofscenarios for property owners to follow so FEMA will be there aswell. The Chamberis also collecting information on the needs of property owers and matching the coalition members to assist. So the recovery continues.
On another front we are fortunate to have a "lunch and learn" seminar schedfor June 12th withauthor andbusiness consultant Tom Gray.Tom is a long time Lisle resident who will be presenting a program over lunon competitive analysis or how to analyze your competition in your particula
business setting; This is a brown bag lunch program the costs only $5. So bryour lunch andwe will provide beverages and a light dessert.
We have had a rainy start to the summer season but the plant life has neverlooked more lush. I hope you are able to enjoy some outdoor activities whileavoiding the raindrops.

Congratulations to Chamber member, Richard Brink, General Manager of the Lisle HiltonHotel on Allgauers receiving the 2013 Best Brunch Award from Open Table Diners!
If you were unable to attend the ribbon cutting at Midas Auto Service Experts on May 16you missed out on a daunting variety of snacks, sandwiches, hot foods and desserts. Andspeaking of food, the membership luncheon at Suparossa on May 23 was very delicious. was quite a humbling experience to be among the many scholarship awardees. Plus weheard a brief summary from the Wheaton Park District of the proposed Sensory Garden.
Government Affairs Committee representatives Tom Althoff and Paula Gleason attendedthe 2013 Illinois Chamber Legislative Conference on May 19 in Springfield, featuring former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar. Challenges to our committee are to share vital infor-mation to Chamber members regarding immigration, tax reform and Obamacare.
Applause to Partners for Parks hosting a well-attended Business After Hours on May 22.
Another Business After Hours was held May 30 at Memorial Park in Wheaton by one of onewest Chamber members, The Wheaton Park District. The much anticipated first CruiseNight of the season on May 25 was cancelled due to inclement weather; however, thisshould increase expectations for the next Cruise Night event scheduled on June 29th. Fornately, weather did not deter a very large turnout for the Memorial Day parade, MemorialCeremony and community picnic. Thanks to the Lisle Junior High Band for providing paotic music at the Village Hall Memorial Service. Kudos to the DuPage Hounds for theChamber member discount tickets to opening night May 31st.
