Blackboard is a virtual learning environment used throughout the university

The direct link to Blackboard is: https://learning.westminster.ac.uk/ When you login, you should see the modules you are currently enrolled on. Some modules will include resources provided by the library’s e-readings service.

Go to Blackboard video

You can use any of the four university libraries; they are open 24/7 for most of the academic year. They contain quiet, group and silent study spaces, and 100,000s of print and online resources to support your course. At Harrow, we also have a mixture of Macs and PCs with key software from Microsoft and Adobe; and you can even borrow laptops from us!

Watch the video for an introduction to what to expect from the library: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EMcxV2eKA8&

Opening hours

• 9am-11pm Mon-Sun (from 22nd Sept); and 24/7 (from 27th Oct).

• THIS WEEK 9am-5pm Mon-Sun (excluding Saturday 20 Sept) until 22nd Sept.

LIBRARY SEARCH lists all the key resources available to you

Library Search lists printed and electronic books and journals; and DVDs and databases. There is also a section where you can search for articles from journals.

Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Y3LRHbaTY

Run a search for ‘film noir’ in Library Search and you will get about 114 results

Run the same search in ‘Articles & more’, and you get more like 4500 results!!

And they are all available online!!

Run the search again and tick the box here, and you’ve doubled your results to over 9000!

If you want to save an item to look at later, click the star icon, to save it your e-shelf

Finding printed books and journals and DVDs

Use Library Search to find the location of items. The ‘shelf reference’ will indicate exactly where the item is located, and you can pick the item up and issue it to yourself using the self-service kiosks.

Library Fines

There are no fines! However, if you return items more than one day late, your Library Account is suspended for the amount of time that the item is late – up to a maximum of ten weeks. A suspension means no loans, and no renewals, but doesn’t affect your IT Account.

Online Resources

Key e-resources include: Art Full Text; Arts Proquest; Box of Broadcasts; CREDO Reference; Film Indexes Online; Oxford Art Online; JSTOR; Safari; Screen Online; and STASH. Links to all these are provided on Library Search. Try adding some to your e-shelf straight away!

Off-site access to e-resources

To access e-resources off-site, look for the ‘shibboleth’ link. (This is sometimes described as ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Remote users login via home organization’ ‘Select login via your institution’ or ‘UK Federation Login’).
