AWARDS2014 UTS:LAW
Welcome to the 2014 UTS:Law Awards Ceremony. This is an occasion when we are able to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our students. Our awards recognise their academic achievements. This is important. As a Faculty we place a high priority on ensuring excellence in legal education and we want our students to excel through their learning experience. Academic excellence is a goal worth striving for. It requires commitment and focus. Many of our students achieve their academic success whilst also balancing work and other responsibilities. We celebrate that excellence and commitment. Our awards ceremony is also an opportunity to acknowledge the broader commitment our students make to the Faculty and to our student community, through support for our mentoring programs, and involvement with mooting and other skill competitions. Many of these activities take place outside the classroom, outside the formal curriculum, but they nevertheless form an importantpart of the legal education offered by this Faculty. They further develop the professional skills that are embedded in our formal curriculum, and they embody the values of leadership and service that we also see as critical to the development of each student's future career as a legal professional. These awards and the programs they represent are also evidence of the commitment our students bring to their training in the discipline and practice of law.
Our students play an important role in ensuring the vibrancy of UTS:Law. One of the highlights of my role as Dean is the opportunity I have to work with our student body. We work in partnership to ensure the success of the Faculty and to improve the student experience, and I am continually inspired by their commitment, enthusiasm, and energy. Tonight we are able to honour the best of our students.
Thank you for your generous contribution to the life of UTS through support for our students. I hope you enjoy this evening.
