A Message from the
CEO Merle Lacert
Hello Members
The Prince Albert Chamber has just wrapped up our 24th Annual Samuel McLeod Business Awards. They were a great success that had 33 business finalists compete for one of twelve category awards. Events such as this would not be possible without the support of our many sponsors, a HUGE thank you to all who supported and participated in this year’s awards. The evening was em-ceed by Mr. Richard Ahenakew and the 260 attendees enjoyed his humor and ability to keep the event on track.
We look forward to next year’s 25th annual Awards and hope to make it even better!
The Chamber is always coordinating some type of event, on May 15/14 we are co-hosting workshop with the Sas-katchewan Human Rights Commission, the free event will offer insights into the Human Rights legislation, with many practical approaches to defining policies, and work place decision that will protect both the employees and employer. You can register through the following link; http://business.princealbertchamber.com/events/details/working-with-the-code-a-seminar-for-business-543
Plan to join us on June 6th/14 for our Annual Golf tour-nament, always a great time that offer good fun and great networking opportunities, see our website for more details.

launched the Saskatchewan Health & Safety Leadership

signed the Charter as a public commitment to workplace
safety and injury prevention.
Since the first Charter signing, the total and time loss injury
rates for Charter companies have dropped faster than the
provincial average.
Join the movement! Have your senior leadership sign the
Charter. The next Charter signing is June 12 in Regina. For
more information, call 306-352-3810 or info@safesask.com.

This message is brought to you by the Government of Canada.
The Government of Canada is pleased to inform you that nominations are being accepted
for the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards until May 9, 2014.
Volunteerism contributes to making Canada such a great country. Each year, over 13 million Ca-
nadians volunteer over 2 billion hours of their time and effort for others. Corporate donations also
contribute to giving. A majority of businesses (88%) give financial donations to charities to ad-
dress social challenges.
Businesses are vital contributors to communities through volunteer contributions and donations of
time, resources and expertise. Socially responsible businesses are developing policies and put-
ting in place programs that encourage employees to volunteer with, donate to and mentor com-
munity organizations to strengthen their communities.
To promote Canada’s culture of giving and philanthropy, the Government of Canada created the
Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards. These awards recognize individual volunteers, businesses
and innovative not-for-profit organizations who work together to tackle social challenges.
In addition to businesses whose commitment to social responsibility strengthens the communities
in which they operate, the Awards recognize the achievements of:
not-for-profit organizations whose innovative actions make a difference every day in the
lives of Canadians; and
individual volunteers or groups of volunteers who give of their time, energy and expertise.
Award recipients will be recognized at a celebratory ceremony and will be asked to identify an
eligible not-for-profit organization to receive a grant for $5,000 (regional award) or $10,000
(national award).
Since your organization is one that could both nominate someone or be nominated, I encourage
you to share information about the Awards and the call for nominations.
Let’s give Canada’s volunteers the recognition they deserve!
Nominate a business in your community today.
For more information, or to learn more about previous award recipients, please visit www.pm.gc.ca/awards or call 1-877-825-0434.
