PRESIDENT’S MESSAgE
Dear Members,
It has been my great honour and privilege to have served as President of CFA Society Vancouver for the past two years. Our Society is in a strong position and continues to grow and evolve.
2016 was another successful year for our Society as we built upon the achievements of 2015. In May, at the Society Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, CFA Institute recognized our Society with three awards:
1. Most outstanding global Society (Societies with 900-2,000 members) 2. Volunteer of the Year 3. Collaboration award for advancing professionalism
(shared with all 12 Canadian Societies)
These awards recognize our Society’s innovative programming, governance structure, delivery of member value, and promotion of the values of the CFA designation.
There were several highlights this past year. We launched our Mentorship Program and successfully paired industry mentors with aspiring protégés. We promoted “Putting Investors First Month” by hosting author and CBC Dragon, David Chilton. Our annual Forecast Dinner was another wonderful success, generating record attendance. Our speakers led us through an in-depth discussion about the social and political issues in the Middle East and its impact on global oil markets.
Our Board continues its transition to a strategic governance model to better serve our Society and members, focusing efforts on the execution of our mission and achieving our vision. Our strategic plan will skillfully guide our Society over the next several years and enable us to lead the investment profession by promoting high ethical behaviour and professional excellence. As our Board emphasizes strategic direction and the Society’s value proposition, our dedicated staff works daily to execute the long-term plan, providing the level of service and member value expected from one of the world’s leading CFA Societies.
It is exciting and encouraging to see the passion and commitment shown by our dedicated volunteers, members and partners. Thank you all for your continued support.

The employer Outreach Committee was created to establish, develop, and enhance CFA Society vancouver’s relationships with local employers. The committee works with the local Society and the CFA Institute to increase the awareness of both organizations and the CFA designation as a whole.
The committee met with selective employers across all sectors and sizes to understand their needs and perspectives. The results of the meetings supported the need for the committee and helped form the basis of the committee’s strategy going forward. The committee recognized the desire to improve communications and activities as they relate to improving the valuation proposition of the local employers not only locally, but on a global scale through the relationship with the CFA Institute.
CFA Society vancouver supports local employers with:
• Professional Development • In-house Presentations
• Job Postings • ethics Training
• Internship Recommendations • Investment Foundations Certificate
