2019 Al DeLeon Invitational Team Champion!

MomentumheadingintotheChristmasBreakisalwaysagoalinthelastcompetitionbeforethethree-weekcompetitionhiatus.TheSeamanWrestlingteamearnedtheteamtitleandthreeindividualChampionsatthe2019AlDeLeonInvitationaltosetthetonefortrainingoverthebreakandthesecondhalfofthecompetitionschedule.TheVikeswereperformingwellthroughoutthecompetition,buttrailedCentralSpringsuntilthefinalthreematchesofthetournament.BacktobackfallsbyJaxsonThomas(195)andEzraShove(220)putSeamanupbyeightpoints,butCentralSpringshadanautomaticsixpointscomingatheavyweightforaforfeit.The220poundmatchbetweenWestHancockandCentralSpiringwoulddecidethetoptwoteampositions.TheWestHancockstrongmancamethroughindominatingfashionwithaMajorDecisiontocementSeamaninthetopspotintheteamstandings.TheteamtitlewasthefirstsincetheVikeswontheSeamanDualsinJanuaryof2016.Thetitlewasateameffortwithallfourteenindividualsearnpointsinthesix-teameventthatuseddualscoringtoaccumulatepoints.Seamanearned261point.CentralSpringscameinsecondwith259points,andhostWestHancockwasthirdwith200points.CameronSmith(senior,132lbs.),LandonWillard(senior,145lbs.),andDylanWilliams(senior,160lbs.)wonindividualtitles.Theyallwent5-0ontheday.SmithandWilliamsbothhadfourfallsinthecompetition.Williamsentersthebreakwithaperfect18-0record.Finishingintherunner-uppositionwereZachBoucher(senior,113lbs.),KyleAdams(junior,126lbs.),andBlakeSmith(senior,182lbs.).TheAlDeLeonInvitational,heldatWestHancockHighSchoolinBritt,IAtookonanextraelementofsignificancebeyondthewinsandlosses.ThetournamentisnamedafterlongtimeHeadWrestlingCoach,AlDeLeon.UnderDeLeon’sleadership,theschool,locatedinnorthIowa,earnedthreeStateChampionships.SeamanHeadCoachPatirckKellywasa1988graduateofBrittHighSchoolandmemberofDeLeon’sprogram.NextupisaJanuary9,2020homematch-upwithShawneeMissionWest.Thevarsity-onlydualbeginsat6:00pminthesouthgym.
