Brother Knights,
Well it looks like the cold weather is coming as temperatures start to dip into the single digits, time to move indoors and keep warm.
This month was an exciting month for our order as we watched the Beautification of Fr. McGivney on October 31st and now, we con-tinue to pray for his Canonization.
On the business side of things, everything remains slow as there is not much we can do at this time with COVID-19 ramping up again across the country. After an extensive review and consultation of those involved, the State Board has decided to cancel the Basketball Free Throw, Soccer Chal-lenge, and Hockey Challenge for the 2020-2021 fraternal year. We will however be moving forward with our Coats for Kids program. The coats we ordered have just arrived and we will be making arrangements to do-nate them to Safetynet very shortly.
I also want to draw your attention to the new Knights of Columbus webpage on the MMOG parish website. Debbie Frey from our parish, has been updating the entire website including the web pages for the various ministries. You can find our new web page under the “SERVE” tab. Here is the link:
https://mmogp.ca/knights-of-columbus
The new webpage contains a video describing the KofC mission that we borrowed from the Supreme Website, sshhh don’t tell anyone! It is very well done and really gets the message of our mission statement across. Take a moment to have a look at it. I want to thank the two other mem-bers of our “web page committee”, Worthy Lecturer Scott Bell and Wor-thy Recorder Ken Lesperance for all their great input.

On a final note, we are preparing for the Memorial Mass to be held on Saturday November 28th at 11am. COVID-19 protocols will be in place as with any Mass. We have already received confirmation from several of the widows and their families that they will be attending. Unfor-tunately there can be no social after the Mass. I hope you make the time to come out for this important event to honour and pray for our deceased members and their families.
Stay Safe Brothers!

Deputy Grand Knight’s Message
Fellow Brothers, I hope this finds all of you and your families well. How are you using the gifts of God? Sunday’s homily by Father Isaac really hit home to me. As I was listening to him speak, it became apparent to me that we all have been given many gifts from God to use. Father said: The more you love, the more love you will receive. The more you give, the more you will receive. The more you serve, the more you are rewarded. Have you shared your gifts abundantly enough with your family, your community, your work or with your Brother Knights? It would be sad to bury your God given talents and not to have shared them. Mathew 25:14-25 Program Update: Into the breach video series is about 1/3 of the way com-
plete. There is still time to join us if you like. Just drop me a note and I will forward the link to you.
We might be able to sell Keep Christ in Christmas items again this year in the narthex. Frank D’Aurora Is looking for volunteers to assist him at all Masses during the week-ends of Dec.5 & Dec 12.
We have sent in the order for the “Coats for Kids Program”. The coats have arrived and will be distributed shortly
Please consider joining us on Saturday November 28 at 11:00 am at MMOG for our Me-morial Mass. This is being held to honour and pray for our deceased Brothers and their families. As our Covid numbers continue to increase, lets remain vigilant and do our best to social distance and slow down the spread. Please continue to pray for all of our frontline workers. God Bless, Vivat Jesus, Mario Peluso (DGK)

SSVP Mary Mother of God Christmas Drive 2020!
Hello and thank you for your past generous support of the Society of Saint Vincent de
Paul and the families our Ministry serves! This year the drive launches the weekend of
November 14/15 2020 and runs until December 5/6 2020. We wanted to reach out again
and invite you to consider helping the families we serve and to bring some joy to their
homes this Christmas.
BUT 2020 IS DIFFERENT! SSVP, LIKE EVERY ORGANISATION, HAS HAD TO ADAPT!
We are seeking your financial help. We are NOT asking you for gift cards. With monetary
donations collected SSVP will purchase the grocery and gift cards in bulk to present to
the families to prepare them for the special day.
There are three ways to support SSVP this Christmas:
1. MAKE AN ONLINE DONATION. Click either link below:
Canada Helps –
https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/society-of-st-vincent-de-paul-mary-mother-of
-god-parish/SSVP Halton Particular Council – http://www.ssvphaltonpc.org/Donate.htm
and select Mary Mother of God - Oakville.
-OR-
2. MAKE A DONATION BY CHEQUE (payable to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul).
Put it in an envelope marked SSVP Christmas and place it in the collection baskets at the
back of the church.
-OR-
3. CAYR(Christmas All Year Round): CONSIDER A MONTHLY CONTRIBUTION TO SSVP
through pre-authorised debit. For more information please email our President Liz Blake
ssvpoakville@gmail.com
Thank you for your support and prayers for the families in need within our parish bounda-
ries. If you know of someone who would be interested in assisting, please share along the
email. If you require any further information about SSVP and the work we do please go to
the Mary Mother of God Website https://mmogp.ca/ssvp-christmas-drive. --

Getting to Know…Brother Ken Dew
Brother Ken hails from Edmonton, Alberta, where he lived until he was going into grade
twelve. At that time, his father was transferred to Lethbridge, in Southern Alberta where Ken
completed high school and college where he studied Business Administration.
His first job after graduation was with the County of Lethbridge, where he was involved in gen-
eral administration and designing School Bus routes. After two years he was hired by the Coun-
ty of Parkland, just west of Edmonton, where he performed similar duties for the School Board
there.
Brother Ken met the love of his life, Louise, at St. Joseph’s High School in Edmonton. St. Jo-
seph’s provided education to both boys and girls, but separately. As it turned out, Ken and
Louise grew up living five blocks apart from each other! After moving back to Edmonton to
work for the County of Parkland they reconnected with a group called YCA (Young Christian
Adults) operating out of the Cathedral in Edmonton, and within a year they got married. After
five years, they welcomed their tiny baby girl, Shelley, who was born 10 weeks early.
Louise was a Lab Technologist, a position she held both in Edmonton and later in Oakville. Ken,
who by now had been with Canada Packers for three years, was transferred to Toronto. A year
and a half later they welcomed their second daughter, Lori.
Ken was working in Personnel, which the world now refers to as “Human Resources,” and it
had been the intention of Ken’s boss to provide him with some Labour Relations experience
when he transferred east. Instead, circumstances were such that Brother Ken ended up work-
ing in the Toronto Plant operations as an HR Generalist, primarily working with Non-Union Em-
ployees. The Dews had planned to stay in Toronto for no more than five years, and as we
know, they stayed longer than that.
Ken moved into the Corporate Office where he remained for several years, travelling the coun-
try in different roles in both Non-Union and Labour Relations. Eventually Canada Packers was
bought out by a UK company, who had also bought Maple Leaf Mills, and the entities were syn-
ergized.
By the middle of 1992, Ken’s position was eliminated, and he was given a termination package,

with no immediate work opportunities.
In 1995, Ken was hired by the Toronto Harbour Commission, (now called the Toronto Port Au-
thority) a federal organization jointly operated with the city of Toronto, as Human Resources
Manager. He was there for five years, until he left to join St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton,
as Human Resources Manager, where he spent 8 years.
Prior to retiring, Ken spent about three years involved in the Real Estate field as the owner of a
Property Guys franchise in Oakville.
In his spare time, Ken likes
doing handyman projects
around the house and wood-
working. Some of his crea-
tions have been featured and
sold at Mary Mother of God’s
annual CWL Bazaar. Ken en-
joys watching baseball, bas-
ketball, and hockey, as well as
occasional trips back to Ed-
monton to visit family, and
doing some travelling which
for the past year has been
curtailed by COV-ID 19.
Ken and Louise attended St.
Michael’s Parish when they
first moved to Oakville and
for the first two years attend-
ed Mass in in the school gym.
They are also original “gym
members” of Mary Mother of
God Parish, where they
attended Mass in the school
gym for seven years before
the Church was built. Ken has
been a Lector for 40 years,

to rain today?” And she replied, “Yes it is, and don’t call me
Shirley.” (continued on page 20)
and Louise was a Eucharistic Minister and active member of both the CWL and SSVP for many
years.
Brother Ken and Worthy District Deputy Brother David Fisher go back a long way. Notwith-
standing their knowledge of each other through church, they met when Ken was with the Har-
bour Commission and David was doing some IT contract work there. When Brother Ken went
to work at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, their professional paths once crossed again!
After his retirement, with the support and urging of Worthy District Deputy Brother David, and
Worthy Former District Deputy Brother Milt Cowan, Brother Ken joined Knights of Columbus
Mary Mother of God Council 14446. Ken has been an active member, assisting with various
activities including the Car Wash/Barbecue and Dinner Dance. He also stepped up to coordi-
nate the CARS Draw Ticket Sales last year and has volunteered and worked a few sessions at
the Delta Bingo.
Brother Ken and Louise find great joy in their family. They have five grandchildren in total -
two granddaughters from Shelley and her partner, and two granddaughters and a grandson
from Lori and her husband.
Thank you, Brother Ken, for all that you … Dew!

Annual Oakville Prayer Breakfast - Wed. Dec 2, 2020—VIRTUAL AND FREE
For the past four years I have been attending the Oakville Prayer Breakfast The
Oakville Prayer Breakfast. It is a 37 year tradition of bringing the Oakville Chris-
tian Community together to celebrate the beginning of Advent and the Christmas
season. We celebrate our faith with prayer, music, and a witnessing of Christian
faith in action. It is truly moving and inspiring to be together with our larger
Christian community in celebration. It is normally held at a hotel banquet hall
with 400-600 like-minded individuals and celebrate inter-denominational com-
munity.
This year the breakfast has gone virtual. Please join us at 7:00am on Wednesday,
December 2, 2020 for this inspiring event, featuring Dr. Erica Roebbelen, Family
Medicine Practitioner. Music provided by the various choirs within the Oakville
Children’s Choir.
TICKETS ARE FREE, but please register to receive the email link to the break-
fast. Tickets and a great breakfast video featuring Julia Hanna of Ritorno Restau-
rant are available at oakvilleprayerbreakfast.com.
With prayers for a blessed Advent for you and your family.

Wrong email address: A couple were going on vacation but since his wife was on a business trip, he went to the destination first and his
wife planned to meet him the next day.
When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.
Unfortunately, when typing her address, he mistyped a letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preach-
er’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell
to the floor in a dead faint.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Dearest Wife,
Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here.
