Independence Day Prayer
Dear Lord,
There is no greater feeling of liberty than to experience freedom from sin and death that you provided for me through Jesus Christ.
Today my heart and my soul are free to praise you. For this, I am very thankful.
On this Independence Day, I am reminded of all those who have sacrificed for my freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Let me not take my freedom, both physical and spiritual, for granted. May I always remember that a very high price was paid for my freedom. My freedom cost others their very lives.
Lord, today, bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for my freedom. With favor and bounty, meet their needs and watch over their families.
O God, I am so thankful for this nation. For all the sacrifices others have made to build and defend this country, I am grateful. Thank you for the opportunities and freedoms we have in the United States of America. Help me never to take these blessings for granted.
Help me to live my life in a way that glorifies you, Lord. Give me the strength to be a blessing in someone's life today, and grant me the opportunity to lead others into the freedom that can be found in knowing Jesus Christ. In your name I pray.
Amen

Adverse Childhood Experience Event
Tuesday, July 18th 6 to 9 PM is an important date and time… The Catholic Church has acknowledged that it has been a part of an environment that for years did not adequately address issues of abuse. St. Philip’s is a parish that has had a dispro-portionate share of abuse cases. The survivors of abuse live among us and are our friends and neighbors. There is a need for us to provide and be a healing and thriving community in the face of trauma...professionals today call any abuse of any young person an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs). As one step towards becoming a caring compassionate responsive community St. Philip’s is presenting a 3 hour program to help us understand ACEs: On average 55% of individuals report to having experienced an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) growing up. Research shows us that ACEs can greatly impact our overall wellbeing, leading to asthma, diabetes, anxiety, life dissatisfaction, and more. Come learn about how ACEs affect the brain and communities, the church's history in ACEs, and, most importantly, what we can do about them now! This event is for anyone 16-years-old or older. Only 40 seats available, RSVP to St. Philip’s Parish Office at 218-444-4262. CEUs available upon request.
Please join us on Tuesday, July 18th from 6 to 9 PM; this will allow time for reflection and feedback. If desired we may schedule a follow up session to help initiate resiliency devel-opment among individuals, families, and the larger church community. We will also provide additional resources that could help individuals and families heal. Please pray for survivors of abuse.
PETER’S PENCE
Next week, our second collection will be for Peter’s Pence, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Please be generous. For more information, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.
Independence Day Reflection The pro-life work we do advances the purpose of today’s celebration. As a nation under God, we gather to give thanks and to pray for liberty and justice for all. Prayer: Lord, grant the blessings of liberty to our unborn brothers and sisters. By Fr. Frank Pavone, Director, Priests for Life; Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day, Catholic Book Publishing Corp.
**Next parish hour of prayer at Planned Parenthood: Saturday, July 15; 10-11 AM. (2504 Hannah Ave. NW, Bemidji) Can’t stay the full hour? Stay for any length of time. All ages welcome. Questions: 218-368-9019
