UTM STEERS (50) Max. 179p/kg & £1224 A mixed quality entry met a more selective trade with the quality cattle at a premium but at lower levels topping at 179p/kg for a smart Blue x steer from RE & AM Hicks, Blonde to 162p/kg from the same home. Simmentals to 172p/kg from MJ & NM Coombe, Charolais x 168.50p/kg from the Hicks family. Other grades at lower levels and in less demand. Angus sold well on the trade to 178.50p/kg from RC Few & Sons. Quality Herefords also a good trade to 168.50p/kg also from RC Few & Sons. Friesians met another solid trade to 158.50p/kg from Bushell Batchmere Farm.

STIRKS (146) AUCTIONEER: CHARLIE COLEMAN: 07494 588 013 What a super entry! Big numbers forward met a big contingent of buyers looking to fill up their lorries. Top price today was for a tremendous pen of Angus steers from the Mansbridge family racing to £405 and £390 for 3mo steer. Heifers from the same home looked exceptionally well sold to £380, £370 and £360. A big run from Greenlanes Farming met solid competition with Friesians to £95 and Angus to £365. Simmentals from the Mansbridge family stormed to £330 for young, hard steers. A tidy run of Charolais from the Newman family met real demand for quality goods at £355. Another large entry in terms of numbers with mixed quality forward. Trade
selective with quality selling well but smaller sorts more difficult.
CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £390/HEIFERS TO £255 Plenty forward but not enough quality to satisfy demand, best calves over £300
to see Limousin to £390 and £362, Blues to £322. Plenty of medium calves
around the £200 mark, smaller shaped calves around £100. Heifers have met
similar demand to previous weeks with the best sought after all wanted. Blue
heifers to £145, Simmentals to £100 and Limousin heifers to £130.
NATIVE BULLS TO £230/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £375 About a third of the days entry were Native sired calves and generally smaller
framed plain calves for which there was good demand to a level. Better sorts
continue to be wanted to see Angus bulls to £230 and heifers to £125. Hereford
bulls to £205 and heifers to £105.
FRIESIANS TO £70 A good entry in terms of numbers but quality lacking although farmers still
looking to chance younger calves. Best Friesians £50 - £70, with medium
rearers to £30.
The winner of the £25 for the top price calf under 41 days sponsored by Howard
& Sons – Kubota, was a Limousin Bull calf from RGE Durston, Glastonbury to
£390. Next week the £25 sponsored prize will be for the top price any
Continental sired Bull calf.

STEERS TO £1185 HEIFERS TO £1072 A smaller entry on the week with anything having flesh and cover meeting an improved trade. Plainer sorts would continue to meet a discounted demand but still plenty of customers for all grades.
SUCKLER COWS & CALVES Cows & calves led by a part genuine dispersal from Anthony Rackham saw his tremendous incalf Blonde cow with an Angus steer at foot storm to £1390, with a Devon cow and Angus steer at foot to £1180. A tidy Angus cow & calf outfit from Fifehead Farms also sold well to £740.
PEDIGREE BULLS & HEIFERS Exceptional Pedigree Charolais bulls from CW Gould of Fordingbridge really ticked the boxes with the best 11mo sort charging to £1020. Other younger bulls from the Jackson family sold well to £415. Also from the Gould family was a super pair of Pedigree Charolais heifers topping at £985 for a young 13mo heifer.

ABERDEEN ANGUS Over 270 on offer met another outstanding trade with new buyers ringside holding trade above expectations. Named sired and farm assured continue to sell to a premium. Generally younger steers forward with 20 – 23mo selling to £1000 from Mike & Bridget Cox and £950 from A Bown. Quality bred & reared 18mo steers from £990 - £955 all from Rossiter & Son. Overage steers took top honours to £1085 (31mo) from DIVA (Sherborne) Ltd. Other well grown steers sold well to £910 from G Read & Son. Medium framed steers met an exceptional trade with 15 – 16mo steers to £858 from Mrs MR Meredith and £830 from DIVA (Sherborne) Ltd. The well reared yearlings from KA Salmon & Son sold to a strong demand from £815 - £800. Quality 10mo Angus steers met fast bidding to £778 from PN Drew, £705 from Chris Bailward and £655 from Andrew Freeston. Angus heifers also sold to a premium with 19mo to £930 from Rossiter & Son. Other good bullers sold to £850 from DR Baverstock, £805 from Mike & Bridget Cox and £800 from FF & J Down. Younger heifers with bulling potential met the premium with 17mo to £798 from KA Salmon and 16mo to £770 from Stablechief Ltd. Yearling heifers wanted and sold from £500 from Andrew Freestone, £565 from GH Elliott & Co to £575 (10mo) from PN Drew.
FRIESIANS & OTHER DAIRY STORES A strong entry of older Friesians today topped at £1040 for a super Friesian x from the Yandles of Martock. Plenty of 15 – 19mo steers carrying flesh pushed regularly to top at £725 from D Hodges with others to £712. Younger 10mo to £385 from the Freestone family looked well sold with slightly older sorts to £545. A tidy run of Dairybred Shorthorns again from the Freeston family sold well to £578.
HEREFORD & DEVON Plenty of Hereford forward today with the best meeting real demand to top at
£1070 for a pair of super 23mo steers. A good number of well grown 15 – 18mo
animals held the trade well with the majority surpassing £750 for steers and
£600 for heifers. Andrew Parker’s entry met fierce competition with his best
steers to £965 with others to £895 from the Cox family of Bridgwater. Smaller
sorts are harder to be place with quality looking to be sourced. Hereford steers
to £690 from F Stone. A tremendous South Devon steer from the Sparshott
family flew to £1115.
FORWARD CONTINENTALS Mainly medium to stronger framed steers on offer with Limousin steers selling to
£1185 from J & S Ward, Blues to £1128 from DCA Farms, £1055 - £1050
(23mo) from CG Purchase & Son Ltd and 20mo to £920 from A Bown.
Simmentals to £1070 from DW & MA Brunt. Younger Charolais sold well to
£925 (20mo) from WJ Doggrell & Son and £890 (18mo) from Clive House.
Heifers met a firmer trade with fleshed Simmental heifers to £1072 (23mo) from
BJ & EM Yandle and £945 from DW & MA Brunt. Blue heifers also in demand to
£990 also from BJ & EM Yandle. £872 from Bart & Didi Van Hennick and £855
from DCA Farms. Good Limousin bullers met keen interest to £850 from both
RJ Sparshott and DW & MA Brunt.

A wonderful entry for our September sale which saw customers travelling from West Sussex to Devon all looking to source quality sheep stock from Frome. All in all a strong trade for all sheep entered with more wanted for next month.
BREEDING EWES (480) A nice September entry of breeding ewes which sold to a strong trade for the
best types. Texel ewes to £111 from M Lailey with Beltex breeding ewes to
£132. Beltex couples with twin lambs at foot to £198 from Archie Hill. Scotch
halfbred ewes to £110 from O Martin. Smart 2T Texel mules to £110 from F
Callaway & Sons of Westbury. 2T Suffolk mules to £105 from L Thompson.
Genuine flock reduction from LA & T Rogers enjoyed success with flock aged
Continental ewes to £90 and £86.
BREEDING RAMS (141) MAX £380 When other centres have been struggling our ram section has been successful,
with plenty of rams being sold today with willing purchasers. Best Charollais to
£300+, Beltex x Charollais to £320. Texels to £280 and Suffolks to £260.
STORE LAMBS (787) Av. £53.76 A lovely entry of store lambs which sold to a strong trade considering the fat
prices. Best lambs all £60+. Medium farming types all £52+. Smaller types look
the dearest today with nearly all lambs entered being £45+. Today is proof that
our monthly sheep sale is building momentum with plenty buyers travelling
across the South-West to purchase quality lambs.
PEDIGREE BLUE TEXEL Delighted to welcome the Blue Texel Society here at Frome today for the first
time. All in all quality stock right the way through which sold to demand, with a
complete clearance in the female ring. Female champion (ewe lamb) to
410guineas from Dave & Kathryn Thompson of the Eastbury flock. Other quality
ewe lambs to 350guineas twice from the Moorleigh flock and sold to a buyer
from West Sussex. In the ram section the reserve male and reserve supreme
champion from PA & HM Coles stole the show, selling to 380guineas. Shearling
rams to 300guineas from Miss Abbbey Batch. All in all a lovely show of Blue
Texels and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
PEDIGREE BELTEX A first for the Pedigree Beltex Society here at Frome, with a highly successful
day. Best shearling rams from MA Heard & GJ Garland – The Maundown flock
selling to 320guineas who had others to 300guineas twice. In the female section
female champion went to A Dufosee from Spectra flock and sold to 420guineas.
