The King Totila was going towards
the holy man’s monastery and, as a
man wickedly disposed, King Totila
wanted to try whether he was really
a prophet. Riggo was a man of
Totila’s guard and was put in Totila’s
princely robes and shoes, and
commanded him to go as it were
himself to the man of God. Three
went with him and acted as
guardsmen to Riggo. When they
approached the Abbey, the man of
God said, “Put off, my good son, put
off that apparel, for what you have
on, is not yours.” Riggo and his
followers fell to the ground, and was
very much afraid to mock so worthy
a man. They returned to Totila and
recounted how quickly they were
discovered.

Prayer for Today
GOAL: Pray a decade on
your way to work this
week!
Hail, Holy Queen, Moth-
er of mercy,
our life, our sweetness
and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor
banished children of
Eve: to thee do we send
up our sighs,
mourning and weeping
in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gra-
cious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy to-
ward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed
fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O
sweet Virgin Mary!
Amen.
