In our 3rd annual Ramadan report we would like to share with you the highlights of our activities and how you have helped to make a difference to those less fortunate both locally and globally. Despite the saddening demise of our Chair of Trustees Mahomed Omarji, who was not only a kind and selfless individual but also a means of inspiration to many, we continue to work towards the aspirations he held for the charity. Through extending our reach and travelling far and wide across the globe, we have assisted devastated regions such as Assam and the Indian province of Kashmir, famine stricken East Africa, medically deprived Burma and war torn Aleppo. Working closer to home, we have supported Cancer Research, Acid Survivors Trust, Children in Need, British Heart Foundation, Animal Aid and more. It is said that ‘volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless’. We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their time and efforts. In the following year, we hope for your ongoing support that will continue to allow us to help those in need. Once again, in the upcoming year, we will stay true to our vision and aim to make differences both locally and globally by supporting the Leicester General Hospital in acquiring resources that will make life more comfortable for patients, tackling the growing issue of Anxiety and Depression in our community and much more. Naturally we will remain aiding famine-hit East Africa, orphans and widows in Assam and Kashmir, education across the globe and all the other places that are in desperate need. It is important that our supporters are aware the LIA Relief Trust now have the strength to ensure your donations are directly benefiting those in need by visiting the different countries around the world.
Wassalam

We are proud to be working once again, alongside Madani Schools Federation during their annual charity week. From bake sales to various sports challenges, it’s great to see young ones immersed in the objective of charity work.
This year, all proceeds went towards a masjid being built for a late student, Ayaz Latkan, for a means of continuous reward for him.
If you would like to build a masjid for a beloved of yours, then please find further information on the Build a Masjid project located on the next page..

Reaping rewards from good deeds doesn’t need to end when a person passes away. Take the opportunity to do good deeds on behalf of your deceased loved one by building a masjid in their name as a means of Sadaqah Jariyah.
At the cost of £7000 per masjid, you could be helping many people and simultaneously gaining reward.
If you would like to build a masjid on behalf of your deceased loved one, then please contact our office, or visit our website for more details.

Credit is due to our team of volunteers and the community. We would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who has made our recent events a success.
Whether it was pledging on our Aleppo radio pledge day; or getting your face painted at our fundays; or even just spraying water at a car at our Burma car wash, we really appreciate it.
Keep a look out for any upcoming events on our website and social media pages. If you would like to join as a volunteer and be a part of something spiritually and morally rewarding, please get in touch with us.
Our Community Involvement
99
The Hardship Fund is a unique project that we launched in 2016 to help those very close to home. As well as helping those far and wide, we must also remember that charity starts at home; and what better way than supporting those in our community.
This project is aimed to assist those who may be undergoing difficulties with:
• Housing and shelter• Acquiring food• Funeral costs • Mental Health issues• Medical assistance • And much more…
We are pleased to announce that we have begun making a difference to individuals across the city and would like to extend our gratitude to all those who have gotten this project off to a flying start. This appeal is open all year-round; if you would like to contribute, please contact our office or please visit our website to donate.

Life for the Burmese in Rakhine State, Myanmar, has always been difficult. However, things took a turn for the worse in 2016, when persecution levels rose and the availability of medical assistance drastically declined. With as little as 3 doctors per 400,000 people; as well as external aid being minimal, many were dying daily.
Your donations, along with our annual car wash and funday, helped to finance mobile clinics equipped with medication, apparatus and other necessary medical items for the suffering Burmese; giving them the opportunity to live another day.
We would like to thank all those who contributed to this cause and gave their time and effort to make our events a success.

Every year, we collectively come together with Madani Schools Federation, Eat n Meet, Fairshare and the local community to partake in the annual food drive designed to assist those locally who struggle with feeding themselves and their families.
Together, we have been able to collect and distribute 4 tonnes of food consisting of a variety of tinned food, flour and much more. For more details on how to get involved in this year’s food drive on Saturday 17 June 2017, please contact our office.

Once a thriving and colourful city, Aleppo has become one of the most conflict and war-torn areas in the world. With streets full of rubble that were standing homes, schools and hospitals once-upon-a-time; as well as injured people; the strain placed on the remaining hospitals has been immense.
With your generous donations and pledges, we were able to provide the supplies listed below and much more to the remaining hospitals:
• Surgical equipment • IV drips• Pain Killers• Antiseptics and Sterilisers• Bandages• Stretchers

In conjunction with nearby schools, we have supported the following charities:
• Acid Survivors Trust• Teenage Cancer Trust• Macmillan Cancer Trust • Save the Children• Smile Train• British Heart Foundation• Children in Need • Animal Aid• Mind
Local Charity Work

The average Tanzanian family is expected to survive on a mere £20 a month; making it impossible to acquire basic necessities. By collaborating with Islamic Help, a charity who are dedicated in creating an eco-village with educational facilities in Tanzania, we were able to provide residents with much needed hygiene facilities and educational resources within the poorest areas of the country.

LIA Primary FundayAs the saying goes; ‘knowledge is power’. We as a charity, believe strongly in giving each and every child the opportunity to learn and gain skills to become independent.
The LIA Relief Trust teamed up with its local independent school, the Leicester Islamic Academy, which has been running for over 25 years, to help raise fund for renovation and resources by hosting a funday. It was great to see friends, families and locals come together and enjoy themselves.
Thank you to all those who volunteered and participated. If you would like to make a contribution to the Leicester Islamic Academy, please contact the LIA Relief Trust office.
16
Along with assisting our local community school, the Leicester Islamic Academy, through our funday, we have been actively involved with different organisations across the world to increase provisions and standards of education.
Every person deserves the opportunity to be equipped with necessary skills needed for their future; and together with your help, we have been able to achieve this in the following areas:
• Nepal• India• Tanzania
Global Education

Working closely with Ajmal Foundation, we have been able to continue the much-needed work within poverty stricken Assam. Torrential rainfalls in 2015 have left areas and villages without a clean supply of water. Furthermore, this is a region that attempts to house over 1000 orphans and struggles with provisions for widows.
We are continuing our to work towards orphan sponsorship, aid for widows, and installation of water wells in areas that need it most.
If you would like to donate towards this appeal, please find details on our Ramadan 2017 Appeals page.

What happens to all those children left helpless after disaster strikes or war begins? Many young children are left parentless and must fend for themselves; forgoing a warm meal, a roof over their heads and a safe place to sleep.
We have continued and extended our work with orphanages and charities across the globe to provide annual support to children in such circumstances.
Some organisations we have worked with are as follows:
• Abrar Orphanage• Global Poverty Relief • The Shade Trust• Ajmal foundation • Baccho Ka Ghar
Orphans Across The World
If you are interested in sponsoring an orphan at just as little as £30 per month, please visit our website or contact our office.

Gaza remains an area needing all the support it can get. For children, access to correct and sufficient nutrients is necessary for them to grow and develop. A lack of this can have a monumental effect on their future life.
Our aim this year was to work with and provide a year’s support to children suffering from malnutrition and disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, special needs and mental health issues caused from exposure to the war.
The 50 children who we managed to assist are grateful to all those who contributed to this cause.

For many across the globe, Eid day is just like any other day filled with hunger and poverty. Your qurbanis gave the opportunity for those less fortunate in India and Palestine to share in the joy and food associated with this day.
Keep a lookout after Ramadan 2017 on our website for details on qurbani prices.
