Arriving at Wild Air FarmFriday afternoon ‘Round Town’was met by the Sylvester Johnsonclan gathered around LizJohnson’s pool between hermanse and the her guest house.Couples from Alaska, longtimefriends of Johnny Johnson(father of the bride), Liz’s grand-son, Zak (Univ. of Alaska), sonSylvester Johnson, Jr. and wifeBarbara and daughter Brei,(Ithica, NY) and…

“Now we’ve got to leave forthe Rehearsal dinner by five at theScottish Rite Cathedral in down-town Indianapolis…it’ll take overhalf an hour at least and we’ve gotto be there by six thirty…” (TheCathedral is “…the finest exampleof neo-Gothic architecture in theUS…built in 1927…212 foottower with 54 bellcarillon…Russian white oak truss-es…stained glass windows…)

Guests met for cocktails first,then proceeded to the Gothic audi-torium for a fifteen minute videoof the ‘…lives of Daphny (bride)and Brandon Berger. And thenon to the awesome dining roomfor a spectacular dinner. Dinnerand at least twenty ‘toasts’ wereover by ten PM – and then –busses were lined-up outside theCathedral to take guests on to the:“Louellen & Darryl Berger’s(parents of the groom) NewOrleans Style Late Night Fun cel-ebrating Daphne & Brandon’swedding from ten to midnight atthe Conrad Hotel.” Zak Johnsonsaid he didn’t get home ‘til fourAM! The senior members of the

Rehearsal Dinner Party headedstraight home from the Cathedral– like Nick Frenzel, Liz Johnson,and ‘Round Town’.

Saturday morning broke clearand sunny – thanx to theProfessional Wedding Planner,Dave. Liz and her house guestwent over to her ‘second farm’(where the Trader’s Point HoursShow is held) and where her sonJohn, the father-of-the-bride’s‘spread’ is located. The football-sized-tent was being decorated –the thirty foot tent poles wereswathed in greenery and candles,and flowers, and the out-door-chapel overlooking the lily-pad-ponds were manicured, and therewere hundreds of bouquets ofroses and peonies being placed ontables for three hundred guests!!!

By five-thirty guests were gath-ering. The bridesmaids (nine)were in their adjacent ‘tent’receiving last minute attention.The twelve groomsmen wereeverywhere looking so handsomein their tuxes. Former VicePresident and Indiana SenatorDan Quayle was there chattingwith fellow guests. …his daughterCorinne Quayle Berger was abridesmaid (married to thegroom’s brother). It was great tomeet Olivia & Archer Manningwho’s son Eli Manning (Giant’sfootball team star) was a grooms-man for his life-long friendBrandon. Eli’s brother PaytonManning plays for the Colts but atraining schedule prohibited hisbeing there.

The bride’s gown was spectacu-lar – strapless with a voluminousskirt of solid ruffles. GrandmotherLiz’s gown was aqua silk chiffongathered and pleated and with a

gathered panel-like-train.Louellen’s white-back-ground-floral-print was perfect. Thebridesmaids were in light bluesatin strapless short lovely dress-es.

Pat Ryder, MFH of Trader’sPoint, Patty Schuh, now ofIndiana but raised in Middletown,OH asked about Jane Watkins.Susan Gail Lackley, Mother ofthe Bride, now of Boston and astaff member of HarvardUniversity, was stunning in abeige lace gown. Her husbandPaul mentioned his father hadbeen Ex of the American HorseShow Association for many years– and old-timers of the MiamiValley Hunt certainly rememberhim! Suzie Fairchild, SusanMiller Hall, Tom Santelli &Chris, Benji & Eric Risman – allgreeted ‘Round Town’ with “…seeyou next at the TPH Horse Showthe first week in August!”

The wedding, and the beautifuldinner were memorable. Theorchestra from Nashville was fab.– and never stopped! Everyonedanced like crazy! Guests even‘performed’! The Berger Boyssang. Father Johnny Johnson didhis version of “Johnny Be Good!”Fancy ‘dessert hors d’oeuvres’were passed all evening! Shortlybefore mid-night the bride-n-groom appeared with umbrellasand led the wedding party, plusambulatory guests in a long linearound the tent to the exit and totheir car where everyone wasgiven ‘sparklers’ and linen nap-kins printed with the couples pic-ture with their umbrellas foreveryone to ‘wave farewell’ asDaphne and Brandon left for theirhoneymoon in Europe.
