• Based on what you have learned about the Northern and Southern colonies from unit one, create a list of ways that the economies and cultures of each will be different.

The Rise of Manufacturing

• Farmers in the new territories planted enough food to feed major cities.

• Urban populations rise in the North as people take jobs in industrial manufacturing.

• Industrial Revolution changes Production methods

• Investments and business decisions made by private investors and not the government.

• Most Americans now employees; no longer self employed.

• Wages used to purchase goods

• Made money by charging interest on loans

5. Tara- “I was privately educated on a small family farm. Despite what everyone thinks, we did not own slaves.”
