3M brand Field Assembly connectors (Plug and Socket) are used for various applications, at out side or indoor in access network and premise market. Following picture shows variety application in Japan market and connector line up. FA series products, FA-SC connector, FA Plug and socket, FA straight socket are widely used in wall cabinet, rosette, outlet and ONU at both indoor and outdoor. FAS plug and socket are designed for small size and outdoor, especially at aerial closure as replacement of fusion and mechanical splice fiber joint.
3M™ Field Assembly ConnectorFor Networks FTTH
FA and FAS connector inside structure is as follows. Pre-assembled ferrule by factory assure the performance of Super Physical Contact (SPC) and the fiber of FRP drop cable is connected to stub fiber in the element. 125um bare fiber and 250um coated buffer is connected and hold in Al-element.

Actuation and Fiber Grip Mechanism
FA-SC (Field Assembly - SC) connector is designed for Single Mode (SM) Fiber and connected to FRP drop cable or indoor cable. FA-SC Connector has the interoperability ofconventional SC connector and can be connected to SC connector by coupling or FA Socket directly. This connector has Super Physical Contact (SPC) polished ferrule at manufacturing with fiber in ferrule inside (fiber stub) and it can be connected to a fiber of FRP drop cable orindoor cable in Al-element inside which is covered by index matching gel. Actuation Tool is designed for simple and easy to use with high success rate of field termination. This tool is a free tool, 1 tool is attached in 10 connectors/per box.

FA-SC TLC enables fast, on-site installation of FRP drop cable or indoor cable without separate actuation tool. Actuation cover is build-in on connector. Improved cable holder has the outside latch, so installer can re-connect to FRP cable when they need. More simplified fieldtermination will contribute higher success rate in a field. Fibrlok 2529 was designed for spice any combination of 250µm to 900µm coated fibers. It utilizes a simple assembly or spice tool and easy ‘strip, clean, cleave and splice’procedure requiring minimal product training.
Fibrlok 2529 also provides a single cleave length for 250µm and 900µm coated fibers. It is an ideal solution for both permanent and restoration spice applications.It utilizes a metallic spice element held inside a molded plastic body and cap.
The splice insertion loss averages should be less than 0.10 dB. Fiber retention is greater than one pound minimum. The splice displays superior thermal stability, delivering stable performance from -40°C to +80°C (-40°F to +176°F).The Universal Mechanical Splice can be used with either single-mode or multimode fibers with a (nominal) glass cladding diameter of 125 microns.The splice is suitable for utilization in aerial, buried, underground or pedestal; outside plant or inside building applications.

The mechanical spice enables fast, easy splice of 250µm single-mode fiber in FTTH installations. It can also be used in multimode LAN installations where 250µm coated fiber is spliced. This low-loss and reliable splice can be installed by non-specialized technicians.
After the fiber is inserted, the assembly tool depresses the cap to align and lock the fibers in place.
The simple, rugged spice tool is inexpensive and portable. It requires no electrical power and can be used in any environment. Several crews can be equipped for less than the cost of a single fusion splicer. The compact tool can be handheld and can be used while on a ladder or standing on the side of a house. No work surface is required.

3M planar light circuit (PLC) splitters are fully passive optical branching devices that exhibit uniform signal splitting for the most advanced optical networks. These planar silica waveguide devices are packaged in small form factor housings to offer compact management into 3M models and splice trays. Bend insensitive, reduced water peak single-mode fiber is used to assure low bending loss in applications which require tight radius or significant handling by the technician. These splitters are manufactured and tested to GR-1209/1221 to provide the high performance and reliability needed in the outside plant environment.Applications for the PLC splitters include all FTTH network architectures (GPON, BPON,EPON), CATV and data communications.
