Grammy winner Gordon Chambers, 45, has written songs for more than 75 artists, including Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin. “I wanted my home to be a place where creative people would come and be inspired,” he says of his 3,512-square-foot, three-bedroom brownstone in Fort Greene.

1 Chambers estimates the house’s value has quadroupled since he bought it in 2000. “I was lucky to find it before prices in Fort Greene got sky high,” he says.2 The wall of Chambers’s bedroom shows the original stone foundation of the house: “It’s literally a man cave.”3 “At my [solo] album-release party, that was the marquee,” Chambers says about the photo on his mantel. “It was one of the happiest nights of my life.” He adds that the figures next to it came from Ghana and have protective energy. —Kaitlyn Mitchell

Property peep show A songwriter’s sanctuary

The game show Cash Cab is actually a macabre tribute to a 1970s psychopath who terrorized the streets of NYC. Taxi Tim picked up victims in a fake cab and interrogated them with trivia questions before robbing them at gunpoint, in what he called a “red-light challenge.” A ghoulish detail: The Cash Cab camera never shows host Ben Bailey’s left side, because Taxi Tim had horrible burns on half his face.—Silvija Ozols
