Principal’s Message
2015 Pupil Free Day Reminders! The members of the Governing Council have approved the following pupil free and school closure dates. Please add these to your diary. Tuesday 5th May - 12:00 noon early dismissal for Parent Interviews Friday 8th May – All day for combined West Torrens Partnership meeting Thursday 11th June – All day for staff training with Sheena Cameron Tuesday 8th September – All day School Closure Day for Adelaide Show Tuesday 22nd September - 12:00 noon early dismissal for Parent Interviews Friday 20th November – All day for 2016 Planning OSHC will be available on these days. As part of our annual site self-review we conduct surveys about our effectiveness as a school site. Whilst we have a very vibrant community and significant parental involvement in our school, one of the areas that we are always looking to improve is communication with parents. Since the end of 2014 we have looked at developing a more user friendly student report format that gives accurate and succinct information in an easy to read format and language. This is based on the feedback from the surveys. I presented the proposed format to the Governing Council who gave positive feedback and endorsement. In 2015, you will receive a printed report each term and given the opportunity to meet with the class teacher and your child in a formal setting twice a year. The Term 1 report will give you a snapshot of the data collected on your child’s learning, where they are currently at and where they are expected to be at the end of the year. Term 2 and 4 reports will give you grades A-E based on the Australian Curriculum Standards and the Term 3 report will give an indication of how well your child is working against the general capabilities of learning. We hope that you will find the new format useful and informative.

Running shoes are very important for your child to participate in PE lessons effectively.
Shorts or tracksuit pants are ideal with the school polo shirt
If girls wear a skirt/dress, then leggings or bike pants should be worn underneath.

THE ARTS
All classes have been participating in dance activities this term.
Students have been focusing on using body parts in isolation. We
viewed and took some lessons in Kathak dance (Indian traditional
dance) with a focus on the hands. Classes then had the opportunity
to work as individuals and in groups to create their own hand
choreography to a piece of music. The older students have been
given the opportunity to record their score in their books.

“Breakfast on WEDNESDAYS”
In the GREEN ROOM.
8am – 8.30am.
All are welcome!
GREEN F.R.O.G.S.
For many years Lockleys Primary School has had a lunchtime program in various forms, run by a small dedicated team of
volunteers from local Christian Churches teaching our children about God. This program has required parental consent and has
been very popular in the couple of years that I have been at the school. We capped weekly entry at 30 children! Last year the
program was a quality program and it finished the year strongly.
Last week I met with the volunteers and it was decided that the program would not continue this year, this
term at least, due to the limited availability of the few volunteers. If a quality program couldn’t be delivered, it
was decided that it was best not to continue.
As this program has been running long before my arrival at school...I hesitate to thank people individually as I
am bound to miss people out However in attendance at last week’s meeting was Vivien the current
Leader, Jacqui (who cried!) She has been a part of our school community forever!!, and the beautiful Lorraine. Last year’s team
also included Heather and Cindy!
So ladies, past and present, on behalf of our school community I wish to thank you for your dedication, your time and your love for
our students.
Bless Ya! JO

Studio Flamenco Presents:
¡OLE! Flamenco Fun for Kids
Six performances only.
13-15 March @ 12:45 pm and 2:15 pm
‘La Petite Grande’, Gluttony – Rymill Park
Synopsis
Stamp your feet and clap your hands with Farida the Flamenco Fairy and friends! Join Zoe Velez (flamenco singer and dancer extraordinaire and former Spanish Wiggle) and Studio Flamenco (as seen at WOMADelaide
and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival) as they take you on an interactive adventure into the music and dance of Spain. Learn flamenco moves and songs and watch as the performers amaze you with this BRAND NEW SHOW that will entertain and inspire the whole
family.
About the performers:
Studio Flamenco is a dynamic group of flamenco dancers and musicians directed by sisters Susi Masi and Emma Fernee. Established in 2004, Studio Flamenco has featured at WOMADelaide, the Adelaide International Guitar Fesitval and numerous other festivals and events
throughout Australia. Both Susi and Emma have studied flamenco extensively in Seville and Madrid with maestros such as Manuel Betanzos, Angel Atienza, Alicia Marquez and Ramon Martinez (Paco Peña Company).
Joining Studio Flamenco for this production is flamenco artist and children’s entertainer, Zoe Velez. Zoe’s previous work has included touring with The Wiggles throughout Australia and as the Blue Wiggle in a number of Spanish speaking countries. Zoe is a graduate of
both NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Arts) and the Fundacion de Cristina Heeren (Seville, Spain) where she studied flamenco singing. The Australian Council for the Arts described Studio Flamenco as ‘some of Australia’s most accomplished flamenco artists’ with a
‘contagious’ enthusiasm for flamenco. Dance Informa described a recent performance as “passionate, dramatic and highly entertaining... At times the gentle rain of the flamenco guitar flowed over the audience, at other times, the audience was vibrating in their chests from the
rhythms of dancers’ feet and castanets”.
