BackgroundShort Rotation Coppice (SRC) and Short Rotation Forestry (SRF) are standmanagement practices that emerged in numerous European countries in the 1980’s.Usually, fast growing deciduous tree species, both native and introduced, are used toestablish SRC systems. The systems typically consist of only one species, which areplanted and then coppiced after a short period of time. Hence, SRC have a specificand more intensive management compared to traditional forest systems.

The most typical product is energy wood, although SRC may provide numerous otherproducts and services, the recognition of which is increasing; they are thereforegaining importance in both forest management and environmental policies. Theoverall aim of the Training School is to learn management alternatives for SRC andtheir related products.

Allyouneedtoknow:

Whocanparticipate?Applicants should be engaged in a program of research as post graduate students or postdoctoralfellows, OR be employed in a research institution of any COST country (the list of countries can befound here: http://www.cost.eu/about_cost/cost_countries) or accepted NNC Institution(Agricultural University of Tirana Albania - & - Ukrainian National Forestry University).

LanguageThe TS will be held in English; a working knowledge of the subject in this language is necessary.

VenueTheTrainingSchoolwillbeorganisedinJaunkalsnava,situatedintheEasternpartofLatvia. TheTraineeswillstayinsharedroomsintheForestResearchStationguesthouse(2-3people/room).

Certificate of ParticipationTrainees will receive a certificate for their participation in the course with 3 ECTS credits.

FinancialSupportEuroCoppice willsupportTraineeswitha(lumpsum)grantof550€.

TraineeSelectionA maximum of 20 applicants will be selected by the Steering Group of COST Action 1301 based onthe applications and COST principles. In the interest of achieving gender balance, qualified femalecandidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

AccommodationisreservedfromSundayMarch12th (afternoon)untilFridayMarch17th (14:00).AnyarrangementstostaylongerinRigaaretheresponsibilityofTrainees.
