What is variation? Types of variation. Causes of variation.

6.1 Variation In Organisms

What is meant by variation? Differences between organisms of the

same species

What are the variation in humans? Characteristics that cause differences

between human Eg. Height, weight, hair colour, eye colour,

skin colour etc.

Types of variation Two types1. Continuous variation – characteristics

which show continuous change (quantitative). E.g. weight and height.

2. Discontinuous variation – the differences in the character are distinctive (qualitative). E.g. blood group and fingerprint patterns.

Difference between continuous variation and discontinuous variation

Exercise Do Checkpoint 6.1 on page 195 in the

textbook.
