DESCRIPTION

Plane and wind problems for vector operations

TRANSCRIPT

Name: ___________________________________Objective:

Using the knowledge of what vectors are and what they can represent (quantities with both magnitude and direction), you will be coming up with a way of representing a situation and solving a problem.

There are two challenges down below. In your groups, do the best you can to come up with a route to send your drone on; use a vector to represent this route. You will need to write the vector in component form, and unit vector form. We will be using a program to see if you hit your target.

You get one chance for each challenge. Start each challenge out by identifying the factors that will affect the location of the drone as it is in flight. DRAW IMAGES!!!

Challenge 1:A target is marked at 790 miles N 30o E of a port. The recorded wind speed is N 40o W at 60 mph. Using the average drone speed of 515 mph, find the best navigational path for your drone.Drone’s bearings: ___________ Approximate Time in Air:______________Component form for total path of plane: ___________ Unit Vector form:______________

Challenge 2: A target is marked 1025 miles away at a bearing of 148o from port. The recorded wind speed is straight south at 50 mph. If the drones average speed is 520 mph, find the best navigational path for your drone.Drone’s bearings: ___________ Approximate Time in Air:______________Component form for total path of plane: ___________ Unit Vector form:______________
