IntroductionAgriculture has always been celebrated as the primary

sector in India.Today, more and more farmers are adopting

mechanization for their farming.Behind all the growth and development lies the reality

that Indian farmers have to face - extreme poverty and financial crisis driving them to suicides

Farmer’s Suicide in India

In a country of 70 million farmers, it is 10 in every 1,00,000 farmers committing suicide.

Death is haunting the farmers of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra .

Planning Commission member Abhijit Sen says “The highest suicides are in the regions with the highest debt”

Causes Of Famers Suicide Some main Causes of Farmers Suicide are:

Causes

Lack of small irrigation projects

Below average rainfall

Heavy load-shedding

Low interest of Young

Generation in farming

Narrowing Farmers'

margins of profits

Rising cost of Agricultural

Inputs

In Addition of above cause some more reasons are as follow:-

Apathy of political willpower toward welfare and development of the region.

Farmers get only one crop per year.Majority of the farmers in India own as little as 2

acres of land.Absence of institutional finance

These causes have left the farmers with no other solution other than ending their lives

INDIAN FARMER • The average Indian farm family works 80 hours �

per week • Earns about $3,000.00 a year• His wife and children work with him in field• Few have telephones, computers, or other

modern equipment. Most don't even own atractor

AMERICAN FARMER

• A farmer in the US works very hard (80+ hours per week) during certain key periods (planting,harvesting, etc.)

• The average American farm family earns $60,000.00 a year

• He has a very comfortable lifestyle�• Farming methods are very modern which make �

farming for him easier and more convenient.

Conclusion

"Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day but teach him how to fish, he will eat for the rest of his life“

If India has to shine, it is these farmers that need to be empowered.

The solutions should aim at the entire structure of agriculture

General public, NGOs, Corporates and other organizations too can play a part in helping farmers

• Quality Seeds should be provide to the farmers

• Supplementary irrigation

• Reduce use of pesticide

• Organic farming

• Pricing Policies
