MULTICAL® type 66-CDE receives volume pulses from theconnected flow meters and calculates the energy forevery predetermined water volume .
The energy calculation includes temperature measure-ments in flow and return as well as correction for densi-ty and heat content according to EN 1434.
MULTICAL® type 66-CDE has a battery back-up for thecalculator. The meter can be supplied by either 230VAC, 24 VAC/DC or by a 3.6 V lithium battery.
Data can be read either by means of optical readingplaced on the front cover in accordance with EN 61 107or by means of plug-in modules, which can be insertedin the calculator itself.
MULTICAL® type 66-C is used to measure both heatingand cooling in all water based plants with flow tempera-tures from 2°C to 160°C and with all flow meter sizesbetween qp 0.6 m3/h and qp 3000 m3/h.
If a flow meter is installed in both the flow and returnpipes, MULTICAL® type 66-C can monitor leaks andbursts in the heating/cooling system. Furthermore, leak-ages in the tap water system can be monitored bymeans of pulses, if a water meter is connected.
Power and water flow can be limited by means ofMULTICAL® type 66-C if a 3-point motor-operated valve isconnected in the return pipe.
MULTICAL® type 66-D and type 66-E can also be used tomeasure energy in open or closed systems.

MULTICAL® uses volume-based energy integrations, which means that the speed with which the calculatorcalculates energy consumption is proportional to theactual water flow. Depending on the size of the flow part, integrations are performed with intervals from 0.001 m3
to 10 m3.
The water quantity and degree of cooling are multipliedusing the k-factor from EN 1434, thus ascertaining theamount of thermal energy. The meter is very accurate, working with energy measurements in fractions. The value displayed will, however, be rounded off. Fractionsremaining will be added to the next reading.
Heating and cooling energy is calculated in the samemanner. However, the total is stored in separate regi-sters, depending on whether the temperature differenceis positive or negative. If the meter is used for combinedheating and cooling installations, the cooling power andtemperature difference will be indicated by a minus (-) inthe display.
The current flow calculation, l/h or m3/h, is performeddepending on the number of pulses generated by theflow meter. The display is updated every 10 sec. whenconnecting flow meters with electronical output(CCC=1xx), though only every 30 sec. when connectingmechanical flow meters with reed-switch (CCC=0xx).
Pulse separation (imp/l), which is determined by theCCC-program, ensures that the flow meter and the calcu-lator are totally compatible.
The actual power, kW or MW, is calculated on the basis ofthe current values for: water flow, differential tempe-rature and k-factor. The display value is updated every 10sec. as is the water flow.
The peak power and peak flow are determined as theaverage peak over a given period of time, typically 60min., but can be configured in the range 1...1440 min.
Prior to each temperature measurement, the calculatormeasures two internal reference resistors, compensatingfor temperature and long-term drift. The temperatures ofT1, T2 and T3 are measured several times at differentpoints, thus ensuring forceful mains immunity.
The measurements are linear in the complete tempera-ture range from 0...165°C with a resolution of 0.01°C. Aninformation code is recorded if the temperature is aboveor below this range (see section 5).
The temperature measurements are effectuated at everyenergy integration as well as every 10 sec. when the dis-play is updated.
The calculators EEPROM is updated hourly with all theaccumulated values, thus ensuring minimum loss in theevent of total power cut (concurrent failure on back-upand primary supply). On the programmed billing date,e.g. 1 June, all relevant data is saved with regard to annu-al billing reading.
2
MULTICAL® is equipped with a liquid crystal display with8 numerical digits plus 3 alphanumeric characters. Dur-ing normal operation the accumulated values for thermalenergy and water consumption are shown using 7 digitsand the relevant units of measurement using 3 alphanu-meric characters (MWh, m3 etc.).
If a customer number is to be displayed, up to 11 digitscan be used, though without measuring unit.
The accumulated value for thermal energy in MWh, kWhor GJ is constantly displayed, the unit depends on theindividual programming. If the left or right front panel ispressed, the display indicates as follows:

Tariff type as well as tariff limitations can be re-config-ured via PC. The tariff limits can also be changed using ahand-held terminal.
MULTICAL® can be extended by means of a plug-in module as required - and without reverification. Themodular space communicates with the calculatorsmicroprocessor by means of an internal databus, whichfor safety reasons, is galvanically separated from theplug-in module.
The plug-in modules now available, which are listed inthe order specification, can be supplied together withthe calculator or separately for retrofitting in meters thatare already installed.
METERTOOL for MULTICAL® type 66-CDE is Windows®
based software, which contains all facilities necessary toprogram the calculator. When the software is used withVERIFICATION EQUIPMENT, type 66-99-28x, the calcula-tor can be tested and calibrated. See Accessories fortype number of METERTOOL and VERIFICATION EQUIP-MENT.
Additionally, the EEPROM comprises an extensive datalogger with intervals from hours to years. The data log-gers capacity is 960 hours/60 days/36 months/15years. Furthermore, all changes in the info code arelogged (see section 5), which facilitates effective troubleshooting.
During normal operation the information code will be"000". If one or more of the following errors occur, theinformation codes will be added together and the letterE will be shown in the display. The information codewill be displayed if you activate the right key on the frontpanel until the measurement unit shows info.
When the error is corrected, the information code auto-matically resets after approx. 10 min. The informationcodes for leakage are, however, reset at midnight, provided that no leakages have been registered for thepast 24 hours.
The latest 10 changes in the information codes are savedin the EEPROM, together with information on date, clockand energy reading.

An optical, infra-red/transmitter is placed in the bottomleft-hand corner on the front of MULTICAL® in accordancewith EN 61 107. By means of the IR head, type 66-99-102 (with 9-pole D-sub), the optical interface can bedirectly connected to a hand-held terminal or a PC. Thenall data can be read and all the meters parameters canbe reconfigured. Calibrated parameters, e.g. pulse/l,cannot be reprogrammed without breaking the verifica-tion seal.
The optical interface can also be used for printing fromthe hourly or 24-hourly dataloggers. An optical IR head, type 66-99-107 (with 25 pole D-sub), uses printers witha serial interface.
MULTICAL® is constructed with two separate voltage sup-plies: a back-up battery, which is incorporated in the cal-culator top, as well as a primary supply, which is placedin the base of the unit.
The primary supply is either a D-cell lithium battery or asupply module designed for external net supply. Achange from one supply type to another can be carriedout on site without re-verification.

ApplicationThe ultrasonic signal travelling with the flow directionreaches the opposite transducer first. The time differen-ce between the two signals can be converted to a flowvelocity and thus a volume.
A multiplug, placed beneath the seal, is used duringcommunication and calibration.
A three-wire pulse cable is used to connect ULTRAFLOW®
to the calculator. This cable is used to supply the flowmeter from the calculator and also to send the signal tothe calculator. The signal corresponds to the flow, ormore correctly, a number of pulses proportional to thewater volume flowing through the meter is transmitted.
If required a pulse transmitter can be used to supplyULTRAFLOW®, e.g. if the distance between MULTICAL®
and ULTRAFLOW® is 10 m or more. The pulse transmitterhas a built-in supply and a galvanically separated pulseoutlet.
ULTRAFLOW® type 65-S/R is a static flow meter based onthe ultrasonic measuring principle. The prime area ofapplication is as a volume flow meter for use with ther-mal heat meters such as MULTICAL® and MAXICAL.ULTRAFLOW® has been designed for use in heatinginstallations where water is used as the heat-bearingmedium.
ULTRAFLOW® employs micro-processor technology andultrasonic measuring techniques. All circuits for calcu-lating and measuring are collected on a single board, providing compact and rational design in addition to anexceptionally high level of measuring accuracy and reliability.
The flow is measured using bidirectional ultrasonictechnique based on the transit time method, with pro-ven long-term stability and accuracy. Two ultrasonictransducers are used to send the sound signal bothagainst and with the flow direction.
