Introduction

● Game successfully used for 5 years in a A1.1 level German language course at the University of Cadiz:– Each student has her own agenda

– She must record different activities in her agenda

– Activities have to be arranged jointly with other classmates

– Students interact by writing and sending short messages on small pieces of paper

Goals

● Can we improve this game with ITC?– Students' identities are anonymized

– Misunderstandings are automatically detected

– Scales for large groups

– Supervisors can monitor the process

– Can be used in class or out of class

Case study

● Students played the game 3 times (1 hour each game) during 5 weeks– Experimental group (app)

– Control group (paper version)

● Data collected– 1 pre-test and 4 post-tests

– TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) questionnaire

Preliminary results

Conclusions

● The game already worked well, but was enhanced:– Supervisors can monitor the learning process

● Anonymity => Communication solely in the target language

– Misunderstandings are checked

– Scales for large groups

● Future work:– Deeper analysis of the information:

● quantitative and qualitative interaction ● Behavioural patterns● Assessing specific competences

– Extend the game: unexpected restrictions during the game
