The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, Bay of Islands
The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, set on 6,000 acres near Matauri Bay, Northland, affords spectacular 180-
degree views of the Pacific Ocean. Amongst the scenery, Cape Brett and the offshore Cavalli Islands
are a part of the panoramic view seen from the verandas, lounge, card room and dining room.
Luxurious accommodation and private beaches nearby add to the appeal.
The main lodge consists of a spacious, beamed living room, meeting room, card room, fitness centre
and computer room. Gourmet a la carte dining is available in the main dining room or on the
verandas. Twenty two guest suites offer their own private porch, comfortable bedroom with sitting area
and open fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. The suites are nestled on the edge of a native
forest overlooking the ocean and golf course.
Other amenities include two Astroturf tennis courts and a heated outdoor infinity swimming pool with
Jacuzzi. A new Spa nestled in a Totara forest contains four treatment rooms, sauna, indoor heated lap
pool, jacuzzi and a fully equipped fitness centre. Kauri Cliffs also has three secluded private swimming
beaches.
The Kauri Cliffs championship golf course measures 7,119 yards/6,510 metres and offers four sets of tees
to challenge every skill level. Fifteen holes view the Pacific Ocean, six of which are played alongside
cliffs, which plunge to the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland.

KAURI CLIFFS AT LEISURE – SOME SUGGESTIONS
Kauri Cliffs - Golf
The golf course, designed by David Harman, of Golf Course Consultants in Orlando, Florida, is an eye-
popping 6510 metre par 72 that overlooks the ocean. The inland holes wind through marsh, forest and
farmland, and 15 holes have sea views. Six holes are played along the clifftop that plunges into the sea
and in that way are unmatched by any course anywhere. Kauri Cliffs has a complete pro shop and,
should you decide to travel without your own clubs, it has the latest Callaway irons and woods for both
men and women to hire.
Kauri Cliffs - Spa
The tranquillity and ambience of Kauri Cliffs provide the ultimate Spa setting. Located on the top floor
of the Lodge, the spa is situated next to the gym. Whether it's for the perfect wind down after a day's
golf, to de-stress and rejuvenate after hours of travelling or for pure indulgence, the Spa at Kauri Cliffs is
a relaxation haven. To make the most of your time while at the Spa, we encourage you to book your
maintenance treatments as an add-on to your massage, facial, body treatment, manicure or
pedicure. Spa hours are 11 am to 7pm daily. Special requests can be made for treatments outside of
these hours with prior notification.
Pink Beach Barbeque
Combine one of the most beautiful and unique beaches in the world with fresh grilled seafood or lamb
and local produce partnered with fine New Zealand cheese and wine. Waiaua Beach, or “Pink
Beach” derives its distinctive pink hue from tiny shells that line the beach in place of sand. It is the
perfect setting for a barbeque that will include your own Kauri Cliffs chef. Transport to and from the
beach is provided. For those who opt to walk, the trek is 35 minutes via the golf course and the
entrance to the trail is near the 7th tee. Walking shoes or sneakers are advised. 24 hours’ notice is
required.

Picnic Hamper
Our three private beaches and waterfall provide a beautiful and picturesque setting for a picnic. Walk
or be driven from the Lodge. If you wish, you can drive part of the way to the beach and continue with
a brisk walk.
Equestrian Safari
We proudly offer all levels of rider the opportunity to explore Kauri Station and its surrounds on
magnificent gentle horses with highly experienced guides. Pick your way through native forest and
learn about the working farm as you ride through stock and paddocks or make you way to the beach
where you can ride on the sand and then enjoy a picnic lunch. Tuition is also available for all ages and
abilities.
Guided Bird Watching
Northland is home to many of New Zealand’s native birds. At certain times of the year, the region plays
host to several international avian visitors. Our expert, Russell, a member of the Ornithological Society of
New Zealand since 1963, will host you on a guided tour around the property to view our unique bird life.
Land-Based Fishing
Fishing is a religion around these parts. Our local guide will take you to one of the beaches on the
property where you may hook snapper or kahawai (similar to bluefish). Bring your catch back to the
lodge and our chef will prepare it for your dinner. This is fresh fish at its very best! The serenity and
beauty of the spectacular surroundings are a large part of the fishing experience at Kauri Cliffs. Please
advise us if you would like some refreshments to take with you. (A cold beer has been known to
encourage the fish to bite!) Please note this is a tidal activity so fishing times change daily.
Nature Walks
We have some beautiful walks on our 6000 acre property. These range from a 10 minute bush walk,
which takes in the magnificent Kauri Tree (believed to be 700-900 years old), to a two-hour walk that
includes a visit to the Hikurua waterfall, Waiaua Bay or Little Takou Beach—all magical spots to visit. The
kitchen can provide you with a snack pack of light refreshments or a picnic lunch. Walking maps are
available at reception.
Mountain Bikes
Men’s, ladies’ and children’s mountain bikes are available for guest use.
Possum Hunting
This is an activity for our more adventurous guests. Possums are a major pest in New Zealand and
threaten native birds and flora. We invite you to join us in the eradication of this pest while exploring
the property by night. Departure time is just after dark. A 4WD vehicle will transport you to the hunting
zone, where you will be provided with a gun and taken on a guided walking hunt. When the terrain
permits, a vehicular mule or quad bike will be the mode of transport. Maximum number of hunters is
three. Be sure to wear warm clothing and be prepared for some walking!

Eden House
Idyllically set in 48 acres of an area of outstanding natural beauty, Edenhouse is a boutique luxury
guesthouse designed in the style of an elegant yet contemporary English-style country house. Like any
masterpiece Edenhouse plays the scales beautifully, twisting large and small together. Take the main
house, for instance. As you approach the property, it seems fairly modest in size—a spot of cream
architecture dropped on the rich green hills of the Orinoco Valley. And then, standing in the gardens
directly in front of the house, it starts to feel quite grand—a big breath of classical proportion. The
paradox continues inside, where the two guest rooms (the third is in a separate cottage) are actually
vast suites—acreage as much as accommodation.
Only 30 minutes from Abel Tasman National Park – one of New Zealand’s most spectacular natural
wonders offering golden beaches, aquamarine waters, and idyllic bush walks, making it a magnet for
outdoor enthusiasts.

AT LEISURE
Situated around Tasman and Golden Bays at the top of the South Island, the Nelson region is
surrounded by sheltering mountain ranges, giving it a Mediterranean-type climate. Nelson, named
after Admiral Lord Nelson of Battle of Trafalgar fame is best known for its year-round sun, golden
beaches, three national parks, 350 working artists, boutique wineries and the city for its historical
streetscapes, waterfront cafes, fresh seafood, and a thoroughly relaxed lifestyle.
The town of Nelson is the main commercial centre for the region; key industries are forestry, horticulture,
fishing and tourism. Only the West Coast has as many national parks as Nelson. Abel Tasman, New
Zealand's smallest, is a coastal wonderland of sea, sky, rocky headlands and bright golden beaches.
Famous as a centre for arts and crafts, Nelson's artists include carvers, glassblowers, painters, potters
and weavers, whose work can be seen by following any of the 13 craft trails that also take in the
regions most attractive rural settlements. Within the sheltering confines of Tasman Bay, Nelson's
beaches are safe, with silvery sand. Tahunanui Beach, within the city boundaries has the largest and
best-equipped holiday park in the country.
The Nelson Lakes National Park is set amidst the mountains and glaciated valleys of south Nelson, and
features beech forests and the beautiful jewel-like lakes, Rotoiti and Rotoroa. Kahurangi, the country's
second-largest national park comprises 450,000 hectares of mostly upland wilderness, with magnificent
three to four-day hiking trails.
With its high number of sunshine hours, diverse terrain and varying soil types, the Nelson region is a blank
canvas for the many winemakers who are every bit as aware of the artistic aspect to their craft as the
exacting, scientific one. Different expressions of Nelson wine include full-bodied, cool climate
chardonnay, succulent sauvignon blanc, promising pinot noir and racy riesling.

the Rings territory, is surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, tussock grass, and hillsides covered in
native bush where wild Deer and Chamois clambering on the slopes. Every now and then a cheeky
Kea bird appears from nowhere to say ‘hello’; the only other sound is the water in a nearby stream
making its way downhill to the lake below.

insulated ‘tented suites’, each with a king size bed; wall-to-wall sheepskin carpet; en-suite with heated

glacially carved valleys.

nestled in picture postcard fashion on the shores of the expansive snow-fed, glacial Lake Wakatipu,
surrounded by mountains. Queenstown is surrounded by national parks, glaciers, fiords, backcountry fly
fishing rivers, Lord of the Rings film scenes, deserted gold mining settlements and a host of exciting tour

perhaps a languid wander around town and relaxing in the warmth of a fine restaurant. Luxury lodges
and five star resorts head a vast range of accommodation options for international visitors.
Many popular tramps begin at Glenorchy, at the head of the Lake Wakatipu, a 44km drive through
breathtaking scenery. The Rees-Dart, Greenstone and Caples valleys, with their dramatic mountain

Nothing you have experienced will have you prepared for the thrill and excitement of a Shotover Jet

Rock faces blur in your peripheral vision, the opaque water sprays into myriads of white crystals with
every turn, and you grip the hand rail for comfort and reassurance and then let out a whoop of
excitement as your driver spins the boat around in its own boat length — wow, you've just experienced
