Running water through piping systems is nothing new for us

humans. We’ve been doing it for over a thousand years. A lot

has changed since the Romans were using lead pipes a

thousand years ago and others were using wood just a

couple hundred years ago. Things continue to change and

evolve in the piping world. Plastic piping systems started

being used widely in the 1970s; since then, the raw materials

and manufacturing processes have advanced greatly.

The ChlorFIT® Schedule 80 Piping System from GF Piping

Systems is an ideal choice for hot and cold supply water in

commercial and institutional projects. Metals pose a variety

of challenges such as labor-intensive installations, cost of

material, failures due to corrosion, and insulation

requirements. There are other plastics available, but they

too have challenges such as resistance to chlorinated water,

temperature restrictions, complicated and labor-intensive

fusion processes, or durability issues. It is always

recommended to be factory trained prior to installation.

Chlorine: In the US, the most common disinfectant method for potable water is chlorination. Chlorinated water, however, over the long run, can attack piping systems, leading to failures in just a few years. Other plastic piping systems such as some polypropylene materials are susceptible to these types of failures. Decades of experience give us confidence that ChlorFIT pipe is the best plastic piping system for the job.

Robust: Unlike other thin walled plastic piping systems such as CTS, GF’s Schedule 80 ChlorFIT system is industrial grade. The thicker wall and higher quality raw materials result in a product that holds up on the job site and, more importantly, can be expected to provide years of maintenance-free service.

Insulation: Since metal pipes are such good conductors of heat, they’ll often need to be insulated, which adds time and money. Frequently, designers and installers decide plastic piping systems in the same environment require no insulation. The thick ChlorFIT Schedule 80 wall inherently acts as an insulator, reducing labor and making for a more efficient system, which saves time and money.

Corrosion: One of the most common failures of a metal piping system is corrosion. Over time, metal pipes often corrode both inside and out. With today’s varying water quality, pinhole leaks in copper are very common even after only two or three years. Decades after installation, the ChlorFIT Schedule 80 system from GF will show no signs of corrosion.

Plenum Rated: Many installations will be in a plenum and must be plenum rated. The ChlorFIT piping system has the ICC-ES PMG E84 25/50 plenum fire rating Per ASTM E84-15B /UL 723 25/50”.
