In 1666 Isaac Newton discovered that light comprised a spectrum of colours.

Theory

Colour Photography

RGB colour theory (addative colour theory).

1807 Young’s theory proposed that the eye was sensitive to only three forms of light.

The brain blends these three primary colours

All the colours we see are obtained from a blend of two or more primary colours.

Theory

Colour Photography

CMYK process colour.

All of the colors in the printable portion of the color spectrum can be achieved by overlapping "tints" of cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks.
