3 Installing an AC/DC Power Module and an RRU
This chapter describes the procedure for installing an AC/DC power module and an RRU.
4 Replacing an AC/DC Power Module and an RRU
An AC/DC power module and a DC RRU constitute an AC RRU. The AC RRU, BBU, and otherdevices form a distributed base station. Replacing an AC RRU interrupts all the services carriedby the base station and generates alarms.

2.1 FunctionThe model of the AC/DC power module is MPW800-48A. It is an auxiliary product speciallydesigned for Huawei DC RRU and used to convert external AC input power into -48 V DC forthe DC RRU.
An AC/DC power module and a DC RRU constitute an AC RRU. The AC RRU applies mainlyto areas with convenient AC power supply but no DC power supply.
The external input power supported by the AC/DC power module:l 220 V or 110 V AC inputl 180 V to 400 V high-voltage DC input (China)
The AC/DC power module supports four scenarios, as shown in Figure 2-1, Figure 2-2, Figure2-3, and Figure 2-4.
The scenarios in Figure 2-2 and Figure 2-4 apply only to China.

2.4.2 Equipotential CableThe equipotential cable connects the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU to ensure propergrounding of the AC/DC power module.
Exterior
An equipotential cable is green and yellow and has a cross-sectional area of 6 mm2 (0.01 in.2).Both ends of the cable are OT terminals. Figure 2-8 shows the exterior of an equipotential cable.

2.4.3 Output Power CableThe output power cable feeds -48 V DC power to an RRU from an AC/DC power module.
Exterior
The cross-sectional area of the output power cable is 4 mm2 (0.01 in.2). The cable has a PGconnector at one end and a tool-less female connector (pressfit type) at the other end. Theexteriors of the output power cables connected to different tool-less female connectors (pressfittype) are different, as shown in Figure 2-9 and Figure 2-10.

3.1 Installing an AC/DC Power Module onto an RRUThis section describes the procedure for installing an AC/DC power module onto a DC RRU.

Procedurel With the original attachment plate on the rear of the RRU
1. Use an inner hexagon torque screwdriver to remove the original attachment plate fromthe DC RRU, and install the attachment plate for the AC/DC power module onto therear of the RRU. Use a torque screwdriver to tighten the stainless steel screws on theattachment plate with a torque of 5 Nm (44.25 lbfin.), as shown in Figure 3-2.

2. Install the AC/DC power module onto its attachment plate, and use a torquescrewdriver to tighten the stainless steel screws on the attachment plate with a torqueof 5 Nm (44.25 lbfin.). Install the RRU attachment plate onto the AC/DC powermodule, and use a torque screwdriver to tighten the stainless steel screws on theattachment plate with a torque of 5 Nm (44.25 lbfin.), as shown in Figure 3-3.

ContextThe AC RRU consists of the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU. It can be installed on apole, U-steel, angle steel, or a wall. For details about the installation of the RRU and cables, seethe RRU Installation Guide.
CAUTIONl Only one RRU can be installed in standard mode in these scenarios.l When a single RRU is installed on a wall, the wall has a capacity of bearing at least four
times the weight of the AC RRU.
3.3 Installing Cables for an AC/DC Power ModuleThis section describes the procedure for installing cables for an AC/DC power module.
PrerequisitesPrepare a 3-pin round connector used for connecting one end of the input power cable to theAC/DC power module. For details, see 5.3 Preparing a 3-Pin Round Connector Used forConnecting One End of the AC Input Power Cable to an AC/DC Power Module or 5.4Preparing a 3-Pin Round Connector Used for Connecting One End of the DC Input PowerCable to an AC/DC Power Module.
Contextl The RRU in the figure is only an example. The actual RRU may vary according to the
situation.l The equipotential cable, alarm cable, and output power cable are already connected to the
AC/DC power module before delivery.
Procedure
Step 1 Install the equipotential cable between the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU.
Connect the OT terminals of the equipotential cable to the RRU ground terminals, as shown inFigure 3-6.

1. Loosen the hoop iron.2. Route the hoop iron through the gap between the backplane and the AC surge

iron to 4.5 Nm (39.83 lbfin.).

If the diameter of the pole is smaller than the hoop iron, cut off the extra part of the hoop iron.
l Install a surge protection box onto a wall.1. Place the backplane of the surge protection box against the wall, use a level to ensure
that the backplane is placed horizontally, and then use a marker to mark anchor points,as shown in Figure 3-19.

2. Use a hammer drill with a 14 bit to drill holes at the anchor points, and install theexpansion bolts, as shown in Figure 3-20.

Inspite of different inner structures and cable connections, the procedures for installing cables foran AC surge protection box and a DC surge protection box are the same.

Procedure
Step 1 Install the equipotential cable between the RRU and the AC surge protection box and the PGNDcable for the AC surge protection box, as shown in Figure 3-22.

Step 2 Use an M5 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws on the surge protection box and open thecover plate. Step 7 Wrap the waterproof tape and then the PVC insulation tape around both ends of each powercable and around the connectors between corrugated pipes. Use two cable ties to bind the PVCinsulation tape at the position 3 mm (0.12 in.) to 5 mm (0.20 in.) away from both ends, as shownin Figure 3-26.
NOTE
l Before wrapping the waterproof tape, stretch the tape evenly until the length of the tape is twice itsoriginal length.
l Before wrapping the PVC insulation tape, do not stretch the PVC insulation tape.

If the power cables for the DC surge protection box contain PE wires, connect two PE wires to the groundterminals in the surge protection box. The power cable diagram on the label in the surge protection boxshows the length of the PE wires.
Step 5 Use a clip to secure the power cables.

NOTE
Use a clip to secure the insulation layer of the power cable. The insulation layer rising from the clip mustnot be longer than 5.0 mm (0.20 in.) to avoid a too long bending radius of core wires.
Step 6 Close the cover plate of the surge protection box and use an M5 Phillips screwdriver to tightenthe screws to 2.8 Nm (24.78 lbfin.), as shown in Figure 3-30.

Step 7 Wrap the waterproof tape and then the PVC insulation tape around both ends of each powercable and around the connectors between corrugated pipes. Use two cable ties to bind the PVCinsulation tape at the position 3 mm (0.12 in.) to 5 mm (0.20 in.) away from both ends, as shownin Figure 3-31.

4 Replacing an AC/DC Power Module and anRRU
An AC/DC power module and a DC RRU constitute an AC RRU. The AC RRU, BBU, and otherdevices form a distributed base station. Replacing an AC RRU interrupts all the services carriedby the base station and generates alarms.
Prerequisitesl The test UE communicates with the base station properly.
l It has been confirmed whether to replace the DC RRU only or to replace both the AC/DCpower module and DC RRU. The procedure for confirming this is as follows:
If it can be confirmed remotely that the DC RRU is faulty, you only need to replace theDC RRU.
If it cannot be confirmed remotely whether the DC RRU is faulty, you need to preparea new AC/DC power module and a new DC RRU, and then do as follows onsite:
If the RUN indicator on the AC/DC power module is steady on, the AC/DC powermodule works properly and you only need to replace the DC RRU.
If the RUN indicator on the AC/DC power module is steady off, you need to replaceboth the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU.
NOTE
l For details about how to locate the faults, see the 3900 Series Multi-Mode Base Station AlarmReference.
l Some base stations must be maintained after they are powered off. In this case, you need to poweroff the base station, and then replace both the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU onsite.
l The following tools and materials are available: ESD gloves, M4 Phillips screwdrivers, M6Phillips screwdrivers, waterproof tape, and insulation tape.
l The quantity of faulty AC/DC power modules and DC RRUs is confirmed, and newmodules are ready.
Contextl If both the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU need to be replaced, you need to remove
them together. The procedures for removing the AC RRU and the RRU are the same. Fordetails, see the RRU Hardware Maintenance Guide.

l If only the DC RRU needs to be replaced, you need to remove the AC/DC power moduleand the DC RRU together, and then remove the DC RRU from the AC/DC power module.This section only describes the procedure for removing the DC RRU from the AC/DCpower module.
Procedure
Step 1 Remove the AC/DC power module and the DC RRU together. For details, see the RRUHardware Maintenance Guide.
Step 2 Record all the cable connections between the DC RRU and the AC/DC power module.
Step 3 Remove all the cables between the DC RRU and the AC/DC power module.
Step 4 Remove the DC RRU, as shown in Figure 4-1.

1. Use a torque screwdriver to remove the stainless steel screws on the RRU attachment plate,and then remove the RRU attachment plate.
2. Use a torque screwdriver to remove the stainless steel screws on the AC/DC power module,and then remove the AC/DC power module.
3. Use a torque screwdriver to remove the stainless steel screws on the attachment plate forthe AC/DC power module, and then remove the attachment plate for the AC/DC powermodule.
Step 5 Install a new DC RRU. For details, see 3.1 Installing an AC/DC Power Module onto anRRU.

This section describes the procedure for preparing OT terminals for connecting one end of thepower cable to an AC surge protection box.

Procedure
Step 1 Cut each cable to a length suitable for the actual cable route.
Step 2 If the power cable is longer than or equal to 5 m (16.4 ft), cut the corrugated pipe into lengthsof 5 m (16.4 ft); if the cable is shorter than 5 m (16.4 ft), cut the corrugated pipe based on theactual length of the power cable.
NOTE
The following procedure uses the power cable longer than or equal to 5 m (16.4 ft) as an example.
Step 3 Route the power cable through corrugated pipes, and add a connector between two corrugatedpipes, as shown in Figure 5-2.
