Mesh Development – Guidelines

Many lessons learned from other studies Emphasis on providing

consistent guidelines to alleviate future problems that have been seen in other studies. ADCIRC mesh needs “smooth”

geometry and careful element layout

Mesh Development – LED Arcs

Linear Element Detection (LED) – program to extract raised features (railroad, road, dunes, etc.) automatically to make sure they aren’t missed manually

Wave Setup in SWAN

Resolution along shoreline increased to account for wave breaking zone Allows SWAN to accurately

capture wave setup physics

Mesh Development – QA/QC process

Emphasis on self-certification. Mesh developers are documenting their decisions as they proceed Detail Check is over-the-shoulder. Review done when arcs where

laid out and then after mesh was developed. Final detail check will be on the combined mesh ITR done on about 10% of initial arc layout. ITR done on the final

combined mesh. Audit done on the final mesh.
