sought feedback from the Committee relative to suggestions for who should be invited to take part in community consultation. Members shared ideas including businesses regularly frequented by the older adult population including Walmart, grocery stores, CNIB, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, John Howard Society, mental health organizations, Durham Region Cycling Coalition and micro-transit companies such as Uber and Lyft. Members suggested future initiatives for consideration within the strategy including enlargement of street signage, an adult tricycle fleet and engaging the older adult population in delivery of the Town’s Safe and Active Routes to School partnership. Additional suggestions were encouraged to be emailed through S. Moore.
4.2 Integrated Transportation Master Plant Update J. Grieve noted that the engagement portion of the presentation will be held over to the May 17 Meeting. He provided a comprehensive overview of the progress to date on the Integrated Transportation Master Plan project, including public consultation. He shared detailed feedback from community and stakeholder engagement relative to modes of travel and priority topics of interest from participants. Maps demonstrating geo-location of stakeholder feedback areas identifying barriers, challenges, missing links and opportunities were reviewed. Challenges and opportunities discussed included increasing multimodal facilities to the GO Station, improving walking and cycling safety on Harwood Avenue at the 401 bridge, increasing pedestrian and cycling connectivity between Lakeview Boulevard and Shoal Point Road, and an Audley Road extension over the 401. The 2031 modelling scenario of Ajax road network and traffic capacity analysis was reviewed. J. Grieve discussed several policies and initiatives that could be considered within the final plan, including complete streets policies and support for the Vision Zero initiative. Travel Demand Management relating to new mobility technologies, ride-share programs, e-vehicles, driverless vehicles and a mobility audit was discussed. Intelligent transportation systems in relation to Smart City application was explained. The plan will also include provisions for active transportation design standards. The next step in the project will include a second public information centre meeting on May 3, 2018. Members posed questions relative to the Vision Zero initiative and the Region’s support for photo radar and red light camera installation. Construction of a partial highway interchange at Church Street to support the Durham Live site was briefly discussed. 4.3 Bike Month Recognition Members discussed updates in relation to Bike Month Recognition planning. K. Haines noted he had not yet heard back from Business Development Staff regarding the letter to cycle-friendly businesses. E. Leung agreed to follow-up. Members expressed interest in preparing some messaging for social media, including content on the benefits of cycling and personal testimonials. To assist, S. Moore will circulate a social media template. Chair Trauzzi indicated by the update Vice-Chair Antram provided in her absence, that scheduled for the two rotating bike displays has been coordinated. A second copy of the display poster will be required. Draft speaking notes for the May 22, 2018 proclamation request will be forwarded to K. Haines.
