Aim To find the best free medication reminder ‘App’ for both Android and Apple

Method Using the term “medication reminder” we searched both Apple and Android store We then selected free ‘Apps’ common to both providers and downloaded onto an iPad Features were reviewed and tested

Materials iPad Post-GCSE student Basic MS Excel skills iTunes and Google play (source of Apps)

Background 144.9 million smartphones sold worldwide last year Half the British population have a smartphone Programmes can be downloaded to these phones (‘Apps’) , some are free, and some are designed to remind people to take medications In the UK, if 20% of people need regular medication and if 10% of these forget to take them, ⅔m people could be helped by reminder Apps

Conclusion In our opinion DoseCast was best - although it only had a limited amount of functions, it was simple, clear and not over-complicated

In this fast-moving area of IT development is it likely that innovations will be frequent Reminder Apps could be a practical and acceptable tool for people who are forgetful regarding use of their regular medication
