What is a front?

A front is the boundary between two air masses of different temperatures.

Fronts Cold Front: Cold air moves in under a warm air mass.

• In the U.S., cold fronts usually move from northwest to southeast

•They usually bring in storms.

• The air gets drier after a cold front moves through

FrontsWarm Front: Warm air moves in over a cold air mass.

• In the U.S., warm fronts usually move from southwest to northeast.

•They may bring light rain or snow or fog.

• The weather is warmer after a warm front moves through.
