The SBCSS Green Steering Committee (GSC) is a collaborative effort of key disciplines within the organization that work as a team, to provide social and environmental solutions issues that affect our students, staff, and community.

As a team, we cultivate awareness and a culture that provides the principles and procedures to create a sustainable future based on resource conservation.

Through the exploration of new and innovative practices, we contribute to the overall strategic plan of transforming lives through education.

As a result of recommendations made by the GSC, the organization has:

• saved $41,085.72 in one year from auditing wastemanagement service frequency.

• projected a savings of $23,000 from the “Unplugged”campaign during furlough and holiday breaks.

• generated NEW revenue from the collection ofe-waste.

• introduced 30% Post Consumer Content recycledpaper to stores inventory, which can potentiallyreduce our annual negative impact on the environment by:

722 Trees* 68,618 lbs. of greenhouse gasses (CO2)* 20,065 lbs. of solid waste* 330,479 gallons of wastewater* 229 million BTUs of energy*

Our waste diversion program provides you with many recycling options. We encourage you to take advantage of this great program!

Here is a list of items we currently recycle:

PAPER

White/Color: Deposit in Large Blue Containers located in all common work areas.

BEVERAGE CONTAINERS

Cans/Plastic: Deposit in Recycle Centers in all conference rooms, break areas, and lunchrooms.

E-WASTE

Toner/Drums: Generate a work order for warehouse staff to pick up items from support staff for recycling.

Batteries: Send through jet mail to warehouse for proper disposal or look for Battery Collection Buckets at Administrative Sites.

E-Waste: Generate a work order for warehouse staff to pick up computer equipment and peripherals from

support staff for recycling.
