Album Art Project: Phase I• Research different music genres and styles associated with them
• Find album covers that represent the following genres1. Rock2. Blues3. Country4. Bluegrass5. Metal6. Hip-Hop7. Punk8. Jazz9. Gospel10. Children’s11. Classical12. Easy Listening
• Save the 12 different album covers in your Images folder
• Create a powerpoint slideshow featuring the 12 album cover
• Add a few comments to each slide discussing what you think works well with each design
Album Art Project• You will design 3 separate album covers• The final products can be in digital form but should respect the 12 x 12 inch
layout of an LP record.• This is a cumulative, summative assessment and is meant to reflect all of
the skills, devices and programs used so far in this class in addition to your own creativity and artistic vision.
• It is an opportunity to combine your knowledge of photography, editing, poster design and typography to create 3 master works.
• Each album will be marked out of 20 for a total of 60 marks. Your final project should strive to show proficient use of: • Photography equipment, lighting and postproduction techniques • Graphics editing software and layout• Typography• Creativity & artistic vision
Album Art Project: Phase II
• Create an album cover for a band/artist that already exists
• Use a combination of existing photographs and your own original photographs.
• Invent album title and song titles
• Design both front and back
• Include important labeling information (copyrights, barcode, record label, etc.)
Album Art Project: Phase III
• Recreate a famous album cover (front only)
• Study an album cover, one presented in class or one of your own choosing.
• Use photography and stock images to re-create it
• Match text typeface as closely as possible.
• This can be a straight up recreation or a pardody.
Album Art Project: Phase IV
• Design a completely original album cover, front and back.
• It is entirely up to you what exactly is to be included on the album cover. Images must be original and non-copyrighted or at least altered to an extent that makes them original/unrecognizable from their original form.
• Creativity is essential. You will have to come up with a band/artist, album title, song titles and record company info.
