• Born: January 25, 1981 in Manhattan, New York

• Alicia Keys began piano lessons at age 7

Education• After graduating from the

Professional Performance Arts School at age 16, she signed a deal with Clive Davis in 1998, who started J Records.

• While she was accepted to Columbia University on a full scholarship, after a four-week stint at the school, Keys departed to devote herself fully to her music.

“Songs in a Minor”• She wrote, produced, and

performed the album Songs In A Minor, released in 2001. The album was almost an instant success! It debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart and included 2 top 10 hit singles, "Fallin'" and "A Woman's Worth."

Her debut album "Songs in A Minor" went platinum five times over and earned her five Grammys!
