Thank you for reading Alpha Kappa Psi’s 2015-2016 Year in Review! This year has been one of positive change and success for our fraternity; we have set records, initiated impressive new brothers, and seen our seniors become alumni as they begin to move on to impact the world elsewhere. We have completed over 1,600 service hours, gained three new corporate sponsors (Amica, Geico, and The Station at Five Points), raised over $7,000, and doubled attendance at over 50 events. Most importantly, we grew closer as a brotherhood. We can speak for the whole chapter by saying that we have absolutely enjoyed this year and treasure the bonds strengthened between brothers. It is with great sadness, but also with great pride, that we say goodbye to our seniors as they begin their new and unique experiences. We thank you, our friends and supporters, for your role in this important time in our lives and in our chapter. Many thanks, Executive Board

“When I joined Alpha Kappa Psi, I knew exactly the type of people
I wished to surround myself with, and these were it. AKPsi is
an eclectic group of students with a wide distribution of
backgrounds, philosophies, and attitudes that introduced me to
the new points of view that I was able to integrate into my life.”

PROFESSIONALISM What we did and what we’re doing.
This past year, the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi has made huge gains in exemplifying
our tagline, “Shaping People, Shaping Business.” This process has involved two major initiatives: a newly established Mentor program as well as a revival of consulting offshoot, Propensity. Propensity is an application-based and student-run consulting firm entirely made up of brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi. A team of quality individuals is selected to then commit to a professionally rigorous semester advising a real business in a partnership built around brotherhood and service. This semester, Propensity teams worked closely with Koios and The Station at 5 Points, the latter of which became one of our corporate sponsors!
PROPENSITY
The Professionalism Committee also instituted a new Mentor-Mentee program focused on giving younger brothers real world insights through the eyes of someone more experienced in their intended field. Not only that, but it offers older brothers a time to reflect on their experiences and pass on knowledge to their peers. The Mentor program differs from traditional big-little relationships in that brothers are paired by major, field, and work experience. For sophomore Lara Sahoo and freshman Zach Winch, their time spent with Senior Tyler Pratt, an accounting major soon to be enrolled in UofSC’s MACC program, was not only insightful but helped Lara solidify her choice to become an accounting major. It’s these types of impactful relationships that the Professionalism team is committed to nurturing through both Propensity and the Mentor program as they prepare all of our brothers to venture out into the working world.

Internships, Jobs and More.
The best leaders build strong relationships in order to promote collaboration and unite around a
common goal. I've made a conscious effort to apply this in the AKPsi
context by pushing people to become more involved by utilizing
their strengths, talents and abilities. I'm so grateful to have had the
opportunity to see and learn from a number of the older brothers who
inspire me to be a better person everyday. -Drew

The Beta Upsilon chapter honored three of its most distinguished brothers by awarding each person recognized a scholarship covering a full semester of dues.
These awards were brother-nominated and selected by our Scholarship Chair, Erin Gurney. These outstanding individuals have proven their dedication to our
chapter and we are proud to acknowledge their impact on the brotherhood.

SPOTLIGHT JACK BOWLING
Brothers Jack Bowling and Bailey Wilhelm have enrolled in the
4kForCancer initiative through the Ulman Cancer Fund, a group that raises
money to benefit young adults affected by cancer. They will be taking
strides, quite literally, to embody our core value of service as they set out to
run 4,000 miles from San Francisco to Baltimore this summer.
After college, I hope to dive into the field of humanitarian work, potentially working within the non-profit sector with a focus on disaster relief management
and/or humanitarian logistics. My desire to work in a not-for-profit sector of business was fueled by a heightened passion to serve my peers. –Jack
