Conclusion In conclusion, the essay shows that

sin has a disastrous effect on the sinner and on his relationship with others. It causes pain and suffering and isolates the transgressor. The writer of an essay on the novel summarizes it aptly: "Hidden sin and guilt cause more suffering than open guilt .
