Description Adhesive-bonding is a joining process whereby materials

are held together by the surface attachment of adhesives.

Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air or oxygen.

They are designed for fastening and sealing applications in which a tight seal must be formed without light, heat or oxygen.

Oxygen inhibits the reaction thus preventing cure.

To keep the adhesive in a liquid state, an air space is left in the bottle and the low density container allows air migration

Anaerobic adhesives are themosets and the resulting bonds have high strength and high resistance to heat.

These bonded joints are very brittle and are not suitable for flexible substrates.

Curing occurs exclusively in the joined area and only relatively small gap widths can be bridged.

Along with "Removal of air", there is another requirement for the anaerobic adhesives to cure.

In other words, the adhesives generally do not cure without metal.

Curing method of An. Ad. An anaerobic adhesive contains

a component called "monomer", that occupies about 95%,

a bonding catalyst for metal that occupies about 5%,

other few components.

The component that starts bonding to a metal is called "Reaction initiator."

While it contacts air, The reaction doesn't take place yet.

However, if air is removed "Reaction initiator" acts as a trigger and the curing starts.

Chemical and Polymer Systems Anaerobic adhesives use many different chemical and

polymer systems.

Some systems contain:

Acrylate

Polyurethane

Silicones

Polyester / Vinyl Ester

Vinyl / PVC

Rubber / Elastomer

Applications

Anaerobic adhesives are used in many industries and applications.

For example;

Aerospace

Automotive

Marine

Military

Photonics

Optical

Tooling application

Advantages of Anaerob Adhesive

Does not require blending, and is easy to handle.

High strength properties, also in fatigue, and itschemical resistance.

Non-solvent, environmentally-friendly type.

Quickly cures at a room temperature.

Limitations

The cost of manufacturing facilities for large structures made by Adhesive-bonding tends to be high.

Include limited gap cure and unsuitable for poroussurfaces.

Having high requirements on package and storage.

Work life is short from preparation to application.
