Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department came into existence on 1st November, 1956

Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department is considered as one of the most progressive Prisons Departments in the country

❖ Introduction of Prison Panchayat System among prisoners,

❖ Usage of Stainless Steel Hot Box Utensils and Steam Cooking System in the Prisons,

❖ Provision of septic toilets in place of dry type toilets

❖ Introduction of innovative vocational training programmes for prisoners

❖ Providing of modern medical facilities.

❖ Video Conference facility for producing the Prisoners in courts

It has to its credit a number of far reaching reforms which were emulated by other states of the

country:

CUSTODY

Providing safety from the harm,

providing treatment to ill-health

physically and mentally, providing

food and shelter, clothing and

hygienic condition with sufficient

space

CARE

Provide legal aid services and

welfare including parole,

furlough, personal benefits like

medical facilities

CORRECTION

The correctional process includes:

ii) Rehabilitation

iii) Re-integration into the society

Prisons Department endeavors to reform and re-assimilate

offenders in the social milieu by using following tools:

First Prime Minister of India

Modernized the Tailoring Unit with advanced ZUKI stitching machines, embroidery, collor press machines, steam iron,

button punch, jeans stitching machine etc. Now, inmates are stitching uniforms and supplying to various schools,

colleges and automobile showrooms and other organisations.

In the Sheet Bending Unit, the inmates used to work with their hands manually, with exposure to hard work and risk.

After skilling and introduction of modernisation, the Sheet Bending Unit is witnessing more production with less stress

and risk for the inmates.

to experience lot of hard work causing health

related problems.

quality of the cloth was also not upto the mark.

par with ITC Classmate, at competitive

prices

Existing IOCL outlets was expanded and sale was increased abnormally from Rs.10 lakhs per day to Rs.22

lakhs per day.

Further, IOCL authorities have announced an amount of Rs.4,43,400-00 as incentives to the Superintendent

and Staff of IOCL Outlet, for reaching the highest sales. 2
