2017 Racker Since 1999, we’ve celebrated the incredible legacy of our namesake--long-time medical director, Dr. Franziska Racker—a legacy built on strength-based supports that champions inclusion and bolster belonging. As we worked toward the creation of a new brand, we knew that we wanted to continue to honor the work and enduring spirit of Dr. Racker, while balancing the evolving ways in which we support individuals with disabilities and their families in Tompkins, Cortland and Tioga counties. Our work is more community-based than ever—with staff members meeting those we support where they live and learn, so “Centers” no longer sent an accurate message of the important work we are also doing outside the walls of our 34 sites. We also recognized that many members of the community were referring to us, simply as, “Racker.” So, as we looked toward our 70th Anniversary in 2018, we made the decision to change our name to Racker—a change that more accurately reflects who we are now, while holding firmly to the vision that Dr. Racker so passionately advocated for during her 28 years with the agency—the vision of a world where all people know they belong.
