From the Pastor’s Desk
Following the example of Jesus, I will be on retreat this coming
week. During that time of prayer and reflection I will celebrate
Mass for the parish and pray for our continued work of joining to-
gether. Many divisions between people are ones that exist in the
mind and emotions, and although intense, they can be healed. In
our Baptism we are joined in one body, and as St. Paul reminds
us: Jesus wishes us to live in unity - divisions within that body are
created by us. It is like the child saying - I am not your son/
daughter anymore. Even though they say it, even though they act
like it - the reality is that they are still your child - any action and
thoughts of that division exist in the mind and can be healed by
the power of Jesus. And only by that power.
This week Finance Council met and we looked at our current sta-
tus, discussed staff pay, looked at the preliminary budget, and
reviewed the payment of our debit. Plans were laid out for these
things, and discussions went on regarding the way our parish min-
istries and units are fiscally united, and what ways we can make
our accounting even tighter. A member of the Finance Council
will speak at all Masses in the Fall to share more information. If
you did not get a copy of the parish interim financial report there
are copies at the back of the churches and it is available electroni-
cally on our website. All are encouraged to read through this at
your convenience. With a few more adjustments we will have the
final budget for next year that will be presented for a vote at the
August Financial Council meeting.
Mrs. Tavaska and I met regarding school enrollment, school ser-
vices, and faculty. Some teachers are moving on, and we are
excited with some of the applicants that have applied. A letter is
going out to all school families to explain about the positive
changes that are going on at the school. This letter will also be
available on the website soon. After you read it I think you will be
pleased with were we are going and will encourage families to
come and be part of this enlivening community. We are on the
front edge of an encouraging comeback.
Mrs. Sweeney is in the process of registrations for Religious Edu-
cation Classes for the coming year. There are materials in the
back of the church for this, or she may be called at the main par-
ish number (ext. 117). She and I also discussed the work of the
Adult Faith Formation Committee and spoke about putting out an
insert in the near future listing the educational opportunities that
will be available this coming year. Dave Bourgeois continues to
work with the Catholic Chaplin at the prison to build the ministry
there, and I will be meeting with other ministry heads to see how
things are progressing.
There will be more after-Mass social time where coffee, juice, and
snacks are provided - and don’t forget the Parish Picnic / Ice
Cream Social on August 19
th
! Check for more information in the
bulletin. Taking time for these sorts of simple activities may com-
pete with electronic entertainment and other demands. But like
taking a retreat, these simple times of fellowship are positive and
human ways that we can build a community with each other.
Peace,
Fr. Steve
Welcome to Annunciation Parish!

some time away, we would like to welcome you to
our Catholic community.

enriched and involved and we would love to see you.
If you would like to register as a member or have any
questions, you can call us at 978-632-0253, email us
at office@annunciationgardner.org, or you can stop
by the rectory office during the week.
God’s Peace be with you,

Question of the Week:
Question for Adults: .Generosity is key to today’s Gospel.
What do you have that you should be sharing with others?
Think of your possessions, your talents, and your time.
How can you use these for the good of others?
Question for Youth: How do you share with others what
you have?
Intercessory Prayer Ministry
With Jesus, our Intercessor, and the Holy Spirit, the Light
that guides us, we gather together twice a month for one
hour to pray for the needs of our faith community and the
world. We offer our petitions and give praise, honor, and
thanks to our heavenly Father for His unconditional love
and mercy through various prayers of the Church, song,
Sacred Scripture, silent reflection and sharing.
If this prayer style interests you, consider joining us.

GEHM: Gardner Emergency Housing Mission
Thank you for your commitment and dedication to the establish-
ment of the Gardner Emergency Housing Mission. With your
prayers and support, we have been working hard to plan, set-up
and execute emergency housing for families in our community.
All of the dedicated individuals who initiated this truly grassroots
effort, which seeks to help those most in need, remain committed
and steadfast on moving forward.
GEHM has made good strides over the last 24 months. Below are
some accomplishments of GEHM:
• Established a list of trained volunteers
• Elected a committed Board of Directors & approved By-Laws
• Incorporated as a non-profit within MASS & seeking 501(c)3
status with IRS
• Community Foundation of North Central MASS providing fis-
cal oversight and advice
• Raised nearly $17,000 in start-up funds
• 1st Annual GEHM Walk in 2017 contributed over $4,000
• Aided two families with homelessness issues during early
2018
• Creating a GEHM Facebook page and a website
• Recently received a grant of $12,500 from the CFNCM
• Opened search for a part-time Exec Director / Administrator
for GEHM
The support of the community is vital in the success of GEHM
and ask for your continued support of GEHM as we move forward
with addressing homelessness.
Star of Bethlehem
Due to the bad situation and interruption of tourist trade that is
happening with our Christian families in Bethlehem, the birth town
of Jesus, Maysoon Khair will be at our church July 28 & 29 2018
representing School of Joy for Slow Learner Children and over a
hundred Christian families who make their livelihood through the
selling of their hand-carved olive wood religious articles.
After all masses there will be a display of these hand carved items
such as nativity scenes, crucifix, rosaries, last supper and many
other beautiful religious statues. Please look over the carvings
that are available and help support this project to keep the chil-
dren and the Christians present in the Holy Land.

WHEN DOES RCIA START?
Right now! It begins when you ask someone who is not
catholic or who was baptized but not raised Catholic if
they would like to become o a member of the church.
Formal “Classes” will begin in the fall, but NOW is the
time to begin talking to those who you would like to
share the faith with. Sometimes people just need a little
encouragement and are waiting for an invitation. Is
there is someone in your life who has asked you about
being Catholic? Perhaps it is their way of saying “I’m
interested in your faith. Is the Church
interested in me?” Keep your eyes
and ears open, and pray to the Holy
Spirit that you will be prompted to ex-
tend an invitation next time you en-
counter someone who is asking about
the church. If you do encounter some-
one who would like to explore the
Catholic church please encourage
them to speak to one of our priests,
deacons or Mrs. Sweeney.
Save the Date and Plan to Join Us at
The Sweet Life Café
If you are a woman who has been looking for a chance
to get away and spend some time with the Lord please
keep October 27
th
free on your calendar so you can
attend our parish’s Women’s Day of Reflection from 9-3
at Holy Spirit. It will be a great opportunity savor the
sweetness that only the Lord can bring to our lives.
More details will be coming in September.

Annunciation Parish Gardner, MA July 29th, 2018 Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A GOOD CATECHIST?
Each year 15 -20 people from our parish volunteer to serve as
catechists for almost 200 young people in our parish. Some
are creative, some structured, some have boundless energy
others are more quiet and reflective. No two catechists have
the same gifts but they do have the same love of God and his
Church. They all share a love for Jesus Christ, a dedication to
their students and a burning desire to share the Good News of
the Gospel. Please prayerfully consider whether or not you
might be being called to share the Good news with the young
people of our parish. Your dedication as a volunteer catechist
(a.k.a. CCD teacher) could help the young people of our parish
grow in their faith and you might just find that you grow in your
own as well. We provide volunteers with training, materials and
support. Volunteers share the most valuable thing they have
with their students, their relationship with Jesus. If you would
like to learn more about how you can become a catechist
please contact Mrs. Sweeney at 978-632-0253 or reli-
gioused@annunciationgardner.org
ATTENTION CATHOLIC SCHOOL FAMILIES
In keeping with diocesan guidelines our sacramental prepa-
ration programs are free standing and not part of a regular
religious education or catholic school curriculum. Immediate
preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist
and Confirmation do not occur in your child’s catholic school.
If you would like your child to receive these sacraments you
will need to enroll your child in your parish’s sacramental
preparation program and participate with your child. For
more information on our sacramental preparation programs
please pick up one of the green flyers at the back of church
or contact Mrs. Sweeney directly with any questions.
