Applicant Visit Day
Your Applicant Visit Day will start at 10.00am and finish at approximately3.30pm. The following programme outlines what you can expect fromyour day:

10.00-10.30am Arrival, Registration and Refreshments
10.30-11.30am Welcome Talk including information regarding student finance, accommodation and the Students’ Union
11.30-12.30pm Campus and Accommodation Tours
12.30-1.00pm Department Welcome and Overviewincluding a brief talk from a current studentabout their experiences
1.00-2.00pm Department Networking Lunch
2.00-3.30pm Subject Taster Session – Applicant OnlyorParents Information – Parents and Visitors

Subject Sessions
This day will give you the opportunity to find out more about your chosenprogramme and meet tutors and current students from the Departmentyou will be studying in. The subject taster sessions have been designed togive you a hands-on experience of your chosen course.
These sessions are for applicants only
Department of Sport and Physical Activity Coach Education
In a session relevant to both the Community coaching and HighPerformance coaching pathways you will use specialist IT facilities toconduct a performance analysis.
Physical Education and School Sport
In this session you will work in groups and take part in three practicalactivities which comprise team building, orienteering and games making.You will have an opportunity to use the gym facilities and have some fun.
Sport and Exercise Science
This session allows you to work in the sports laboratories. Working ingroups you will take part in three separate practical activities.
Sports StudiesSports Development
In this session you will have the opportunity to participate in a topicaldebate on key issues in sport for example ‘Drugs in Sport’.
Sports Therapy
In this interactive taster you will participate in five activities which willdemonstrate a rehabilitation class, core stability session, electrotherapy,massage and clinic work.

Department of Psychology Educational Psychology
This session will examine what Educational Psychology involves,exploring the concept of attentional bias and how it may be related toexam performance.
Psychology
This session will explore the concept of moral reasoning from atheoretical (developmental) perspective. How does our understanding ofmoral reasoning help to inform decisions within society (e.g. age ofcriminal responsibility).
Sport and Exercise Psychology
During this session you will consider the role that psychological scienceplays in optimising sporting performance, as well as understandingexercise behaviours.

Department of Law and Criminology Criminology and Criminal Justice
Should the punishment fit the crime?This session will explore the meaning of the phrase ‘the punishmentshould fit the crime’. What would a system in which the ‘punishmentfitted the crime’ actually look like? And what might the alternatives be?You will consider whether it is a workable idea during this session.
Law
This taster session will be delivered by lecturers and current studentswithin the Law department and will discuss law issues, for example‘Celebrities and the law’. This session finishes with seminar group activity.

Department of Social Sciences Childhood and Youth StudiesEarly Childhood Studies
In this session you will be encouraged to think about how children andyoung people interact with the wider cultural world and attribute yourown meaning and value to an item of popular culture. Consider howchildren and young people value a mobile phone as being important tothem? How and why has it has attained its importance and what linkdoes that have to the wider economic, social, political and cultural world?This session will also explore when children are allowed, by law, toparticipate in society.
Sociology
Sociology and Personal LifeSociologists have been interested in the family since the beginnings ofthe discipline. This session will explore some of the cultural practices offamilies in western societies including: emotions, love and commitment,personal connections, possessions, things and rationality and thesignificance of memory.

The Edge Link bus service is a fast, cheap and reliable way to get to the campus fromOrmskirk Bus Station. During term-time this service runs every 15 minutes, 8.05am –5.50pm, Monday-Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) and 8.05am – 5.50pm on Saturdays.
