Save Ballbar 20 data on a network

Overview

There are two ways to save Ballbar data to a network location. One is to manually move the data using the Import / Export function on Ballbar 20, the other is to change the ‘default file path’ for saving data.

It is possible to save Ballbar data to a network location; however, this does not allow the user to run Ballbar 20 software from the network.

To capture data or view data, the Ballbar software must be installed on the PC / laptop being used – Ballbar 20 software cannot be run from the network.

Import / Export (manual method)

The most secure way to save data onto a network PC is to use the ‘Import’ and ‘Export’ function within the Ballbar 20 software to move data to and from the network PC.

Note: It is important that the user exports data immediately after capture to ensure that all data is stored in the order that it was captured.

Using this function will allow the user to:

• Importa‘machinecatalogue’foraspecificmachinefromthenetworktoatestPC/laptop

• Themachinecataloguecaninclude:testparametersforthemachineandprevioustestdata

• Datacanthenbecapturedforthemachineandsavedinthe‘machinecatalogue’

Change the file path (Automatic method):The alternative is to change the file path for the save location so that every test carried out will automatically be saved to the Network rather than being saved on the test PC / laptop.

All users should be made aware of the following precautions to avoid any data synchronisation issues:

• Onlyasingleusershouldaccessthedataatanytimetoavoidsynchronizationproblems.

• Thenetworkmustbeconnectedatalltimeswhenusingthesoftware(i.e.thereisnodisconnectedmode or local cache).

The following diagrams show the file path for saving data:

Note: The method varies slightly between Windows XP and Vista/7.
