Apprentice Cable Jointer (Powerline)Certificate III – ESI Cable JointingBackground

The Cable Jointing Apprenticeship will be conducted over a four-year period incorporating both formal training (attendance at TAFE) and ‘in field’ (on the job) segments.

An Apprentice Cable Jointer (Powerline) will see you install and maintain cables located in underground pipes and trenches and also terminate cables on electrical equipment and overhead lines that are an integral part of our electricity distribution network.

During your apprenticeship you will learn the highly specialised skillsneeded for joining electrical power cables. You will work on both low and high voltage power cables and learn a variety of jointing and terminating techniques for underground electrical cables.

Other tasksmay involve:• Repairs and maintenance of

cables• Installing new underground

cables

• Jointing and termination of cables in substations

• Emergency work• Test and locate cable faults

Post training

• Diploma in ESI Power Systems• Dual Trade Ticket (for example Electrical Fitter and Lineworker)

• High Voltage Operating Ticket• Switching Operations• Deakin Management Training

Apprenticeship prerequisites

Minimum Year 11 with pass in General Maths, or currently undertaking a TAFE Training course (Pre-Apprenticeship)
